What are the four pillars of China's aesthetics in Li Zehou's eyes?

In Li Zehou's view, the four pillars of China's aesthetics are Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism and Qu Sao.

Li Zehou, a native of Ningxiang, Hunan, is a philosopher. Before his death, he was a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, a member of the Institute of International Philosophy in Paris, an honorary doctor of humanities at the Colorado College in the United States, and a visiting professor at the University of Tubingen, the University of Michigan, the University of Wisconsin and other universities, mainly engaged in the study of China's modern ideological history, philosophy and aesthetics.

Li Zehou believes that the four pillars of China's aesthetics are Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism and Qu Sao. Confucianism pays attention to sociality, Taoism pays attention to humanity, and Buddhism pays attention to individuality. Qu Sao highlights its basic connotation with his passionate individual feelings and unique artistic world. Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism permeated and influenced each other in the history of China, which constituted the main body of China traditional culture, while Qu Sao, with his unique artistic world and passionate personal feelings, constituted another unique aspect of China traditional art. These four pillars run through China's ancient aesthetic thoughts, constitute four branches of China's ancient aesthetic thoughts, and become the foundation of China culture.
