What to do when foreign cultures collide with traditional ones?
Chinese culture Chinese dream
I am a Chinese, of course I have a Chinese dream. Many of my countrymen's dreams are very ambitious and mind-blowing. While I am ashamed of myself, I also have a question: If there is no traditional Chinese culture, can these dreams be realized? Can it be called the Chinese dream? Therefore, my dream is very simple, that is, to preserve my Chinese roots, the roots of the nation, the roots of culture.
How can we maintain the independence of traditional Chinese culture on the basis of drawing on the excellent science, technology, culture and art of the West? In other words, how not to be assimilated into Western culture is a very, very important issue, even more important than whether we can move into the developed world. It doesn't matter if we lag behind a little bit, "our children and grandchildren are endless", just keep catching up. Retained the traditional culture to retain the root, we are still unique Chinese; developed, but the dragon soul dragon root lost, we will become proud of Western culture, to the yellow banana proud of the Singaporeans. Foreign guns and cannons can not break our roots, but sugar-coated shells have broken our roots, is not it a big joke? Ancient India and ancient Greek culture were all destroyed by the powerful, there is no reason for the children of the Yellow Emperor to destroy the Chinese civilization in the heyday.
For thousands of years, the farming civilization has been superior to the nomadic civilization, so the Confucian civilization can assimilate the surrounding civilization, and have a profound influence on the neighboring countries. Now the Western civilization is prevalent and is even superior to Confucian civilization. The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation lies in economic rejuvenation in appearance but cultural rejuvenation in essence. How can we hold on to our culture and carry it forward in the world despite our inferiority and the superiority of the enemy? This question is much more difficult than mere scientific and technological progress.
Culture is hard to change and hard to copy. Culture is a habit we have, simply put, like the clothes we wear. We have adapted to wearing suits because we are used to looking to the West. Are you used to foreigners wearing Tang clothes? Are the foreigners being funny, or are we?
Some people think that the world is integrated and that there is no need to differentiate. Isn't it good to be in tune with the world? Isn't drug addiction and AIDS in line with the world? Is that a good thing? No one wants to give such extreme examples, mainly because some people think too extreme. Only what is national is global. If a nation has lost its own identity, it is doubtful whether it can retain its global membership, so how can it be qualified to belong to the world? How can we talk about rising in the world? From
The pursuit of form is a meaningless thing, at best, is a piece of the emperor's new clothes. Can a foreigner wearing a Tang suit prove that we are a heavenly kingdom? The fact that foreigners wear Tang clothes reflects, at best, a respect for Chinese culture. Integration into Chinese civilization? Don't dream of it. They are in a dominant position, why would they want to change themselves? An Italian proverb says, "The strong do not need to change themselves." No matter how loudly democracy and freedom are shouted, will the whites give up their dominance? It's also been more than two hundred years since the founding of the United States, when has it ever elected a non-white president?
Over the years, we have learned the West's brutal competition, the West's egotism, but not the West's law-abidingness, the West's humanism. When the integrity and morality of the Chinese people has hit rock bottom, all of them are asking for change. But in the way of change, whether to the Western set to transform the people, or to the traditional culture to correct the deviation, the two kinds of thinking has been a fierce collision. Sadly, this is only limited to those who have the knowledge, most of the people in the country can not care to consider this issue. In this era of all-out competition and extreme ego inflation, how many people will turn their heads to learn about national culture? To put it bluntly, they have little interest in the justice and fairness of the West. Isn't the purpose of desperately trying to make money to be superior and do whatever they want? And what about the equality and fairness that some people desperately call for is not in their own interest? Have they ever called for fairness for their competitors? Have they ever considered the whole industry? Have they considered the interests of the country and the nation? ......
If we follow the logic of the westernized people, I am afraid that the legal state will have to be like Europe and the United States for hundreds of years before it can be put on the right track. Can we wait so long for the revival of China? I'm afraid the traditional culture doesn't even exist there anymore. Moreover, the revival of China should be the revival of Chinese nationalism, not the revival of Chinese westernism. From 81.china.com
How to promote traditional culture? The Eight Honors and Eight Shames is to promote traditional culture. Traditional culture is in need of development, without development culture will stagnate, will perish. The current cultural soil is not to mention that recently there is a person who wants to change the dragon, the symbol of the Chinese people. This is what the current cultural people are most passionate about! An illiterate person also understands that this will give the sky a thunderbolt, and I wonder if this person is really confused or pretending to be confused?
Land and culture are non-renewable resources that die out and never rise again. Did the ancient Indian civilization and the ancient Egyptian civilization revive? If it dies out, it dies out, and the gods will not bless any culture. There is no savior, you can only rely on yourself to change your destiny.
How to revive the traditional culture? I have six humble opinions:
One is to change the status of the English language alone.
It will not do to change the status of the English language's dominance, to decouple degrees from English, to fix the English language industry that earns 60 billion dollars a year, or to change the hundreds of thousands of students studying abroad who kidnap 350 million students every year.
The approach of giving equal weight to mother tongue and English is worth reflecting on. It is said to be equal emphasis, in fact, less English can not be. The shrinking of majors in Chinese, languages and national studies shows that our branching language is in crisis.
Degree linked to English four or six levels, only know its surface do not know its inside, in essence, is a kind of foreign affairs movement. The best place in the world to learn English is Japan, and how many years have the Japanese been learning it? Is China comparable to Japan?
What is the purpose of learning English? The purpose of learning English is to utilize it! People's energy is limited, don't really think that Chinese people can be one for two. The whole nation has been learning English for many years, why is there still an oversupply of English professionals? It's not that the economy is developing too fast, but that the four or six level exams are too much of a formality. Not only can't cultivate real talents, but also promote the academic style of falsification. Even if the English language passes the professional is pass long live, so what is the use of graduates? Since there is no effect, why waste a lot of human and material resources?
Two from all aspects of the elimination of the country's foreign favoring consciousness.
The foreign pandering is not a temporary superficial phenomenon, it y exposed the crisis faced by the Chinese civilization. The last clamor for the abolition of Chinese medicine is very typical. Chinese medicine is an integral part of Chinese culture, and it and Western medicine are two different worldviews and methodologies. The fierce collision between the Chinese civilization and the Western civilization in this field of medicine is not accidental. Nowadays, Chinese medicine is basically supported by some famous old Chinese doctors, why is that so? Why is this so? The use of Western medicine to train Chinese medicine practitioners can be described as "an orange born in Huainan is an orange, but one born in Huibei is a hedgehog". In the Chinese medicine to the world but slowly dying in their own countries at the same time, Western medicine and why must on Chinese medicine to wipe out? Is it really as simple as a scientific dispute? The fact is that there is no evidence to prove that Chinese medicine is ineffective. The answer is actually simple: when your child is used to Western medical treatment since childhood, can he not be influenced by Western culture? Many people used to worship Kentucky Fried Chicken McDonald's, and what was the result? Retrieved from
There is absolutely no way out without integrating into the world. But it is extremely dangerous to emphasize the ****ness of integrating into the world without emphasizing the individuality of one's own national culture. To draw an analogy, emphasizing only ****ness is like Wang Jingwei, and emphasizing only individuality is like the Boxer Rebellion. How can we learn the essence of Western culture? On the current impetuous academic circles, on the current impetuous national mentality, it is difficult to have a rational answer. Even if we don't promote traditional culture, the show business sector is still insulting traditional culture again and again. Where should Chinese culture go? The relevant departments of the relevant experts all the people of the country should think about it.
Three religious beliefs should be emphasized. People need to have a faith, whether you believe in religion or not. With faith there is a moral system, there is the outlook on life values. People without faith is terrible, everything in the existing society is no longer worthy of his reverence. But faith can be cultivated, and different cultures will cultivate different faiths. And again, religion.
My hometown is in the rural area of north Jiangsu Province. The big girls and little daughters-in-law and old ladies there are now hooked on Catholicism, and rush to the county town every weekend to attend Mass. They leave at 2 or 3 a.m. and are more aggressive than making money. What does the fact that there are two Catholic churches in one county (not counting the township churches) tell us? Why did so many missionaries follow after foreign guns and cannons hit China? Religion is part of culture, my folks can be short-sighted, can we, the defenders of traditional culture, be short-sighted?
4The Neo-Confucianism movement is a good thing, but don't go astray. Confucianism is part of traditional Chinese culture, but Confucianism is not all of traditional Chinese culture, let alone the only one. The use of the past for the present does not mean that we should bend history, but do not repeat the same mistakes. To take the best and weed out the dross is the right attitude. What is most gratifying is that the Neo-Confucianism movement and the children's Bible-reading movement have sprung up spontaneously among the people, which shows that the people of China are returning to traditional culture in a rational manner. Therefore, I have full confidence in the country and the nation.
The poisoning of culture by RTHK's Internet language should not be taken lightly. Take the most common "I love you well", which is a sick sentence. The network is even more than a lot of new words, some of which are also helpless. But there are a lot of teenagers on the Internet, will they be blackmailed? We can't afford to take it lightly! If we allow the language tumor to run rampant, we don't have to wait until we are defeated by the English language, self-destruction is enough.
Sixth, learn from Japan and South Korea.
How can we integrate into the world while maintaining our national identity? Japan and South Korea have made excellent examples. There is no need to blush, Japan and South Korea pay more attention to etiquette, national culture and national cohesion than we do. Why not learn from their merits?
Lastly, I repeat: without the heritage of Chinese culture, it is impossible to have the Chinese dream. Even if there is, it should be called my American dream, my European dream. It is impossible to take on the heavy responsibility of revitalizing traditional Chinese culture by relying only on those tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of young children who are learning the scriptures!
In recent years in China, there has been frequent talk about the issue of Ben Shi culture.
In order to keep our culture alive, there have been various initiatives around the country. Wuhan has organized a campaign to wear Hanbok for the coming-of-age ceremony, and other places also have their own tricks.
In my view, there is little need for such practices. They are far more for show than they are for real.
How a culture continues is very important to the development and survival of a civilization. However, this does not mean that a civilization's culture can be allowed to languish by clinging to its already established cultural forms and not adapting them.
The closed-door policy of the Qing Dynasty, which allowed our culture to remain unchanged for hundreds of years, nearly cut short the future of Chinese civilization in the hands of those powers who opened our doors with foreign guns and artillery. There were similar examples of such practices in earlier dynasties. Time and again, such situations have arisen, and our civilization has lagged behind the world time and again.
There were times when we were one of the most powerful civilizations in the world, with the first to carry out technology, the most perfect poetry, the greatest literary figures, the brightest mathematicians, and the most diligent professionals in geography and astronomy. Our accomplishments are viewed by the other civilizations of the world with a sense of "high regard".
But time and time again, we were brought closer to the world, until one day we were no longer the untouchable, advanced and powerful empire they thought we were. And then, still in the midst of the fixation again and again, the distance between us and the world was widened, and in our minds, surprisingly, only the notion of foreign things being superior to earthly things remained.
The great development of Chinese civilization has occurred simultaneously with foreign exchanges at every turn.
With the opening of the Yuan Dynasty and the coming of ten thousand nations, many technological breakthroughs followed in our country. We built the world's first geodesic at that time that could effectively monitor earthquakes at a distance, we made extremely accurate planetariums, and we calculated pi to seven decimal places.
Our far-flung technology has allowed us to take our technology to other parts of the world and bring back new cultural elements from there. We are constantly blending cultures from all over the world. It is in this constant blending that our culture evolves and we have the break to revisit our values, our ethics, our system of scientific theories, our system of philosophy.
At an earlier time, between the hundred schools of thought and the blossoming of a hundred flowers, those who had not yet become "sons" or "families" began to move from country to country, trying to validate each other's ideas. This was known as "traveling and learning". It was this kind of study tour that led to the later blossoming of a hundred flowers.
Our culture, in the absence of political interference, has always been eclectic, and it is in this environment that our culture has grown, and it is in the face of the impact of all the other cultures of the world that our culture needs to grow further.
Or say the Kaiyuan period, before that, the Chinese people were sitting on the ground or sitting on very short stools (Japan is then learned from China, and made into a treadmill). Even the emperor's carriage, which was used for traveling and sitting, was not high. As I said before, during the reign of Emperor Kaiyuan, it was a situation in which ten thousand countries came to the imperial court. Among them were the Persians, who brought the sitting ---- chairs they used. In the beginning, this thing in our country is not called chair, but called "Hu bed". Hu means Persia.
Tang Dynasty "chair" is no backrest, even if there is also very small, can not use the backrest.
During the Song Dynasty, when the Mongol and Maiden cultures were absorbed into the Han civilization (some of the decorative motifs, such as water waves, are still in use today), our chairs had backrests, the layout of which was copied from the upper part of the cabinets that were used in Mongolia at the time. Mongolia is located in the steppe, not much wood, all materials used to economize. Their cabinets can be closed on the lower level, and the upper level of only three sides, was "U" shaped enclosure, so that, in nomadic, only need to put the cabinet slightly oblique, the items will not fall out, and at the same time there is no need to close the other side of the face (the front with the top).
There are many elements of our culture in which traces of other cultural elements can be seen. It's not just chairs. The bowls and chopsticks we use, the shapes of magnets from various dynasties, and the compositions and techniques of ink paintings are all infused with various cultural elements.
Our culture is open, and we have never deliberately denied any culture access to our territory. Compared to thousands of years ago, our current culture does not have much in common on the surface, because we have never taken the advanced parts of other cultures, transformed them, and incorporated them into our culture. Our culture has not refused to change for fear of being changed. Because of the vastness of our culture, every time we "bring in", it will not bring a destructive impact on our culture itself, and every time we "bring in" something, it will be gradually assimilated in more local cultures.
Our culture is both open and receptive, and we have never been afraid of the impact of foreign culture.
Over the course of history, our culture has evolved. One cannot say which period of culture is the standard cultural form of Chinese civilization. The Hanbok is a specific form of clothing culture in a certain period of our culture, and it may be at odds with our current ideology, but it does not follow that the culture represented by the Hanbok and the culture we have now are two cultures.
Our culture is evolving, its representations are changing with the times, so we live in buildings, we use computers, we wear suits, we take aspirin when we have a cold. But that doesn't mean that our culture has been decimated by the current onslaught of world culture. We should also see that we live in the building, then began to complain that such an environment is not convenient to visit the door, with is our building room has a small garden, there are chess tables and benches; we use a computer, but our accounting essential tool is still the abacus, our bead counting in the hands of professionals, under certain circumstances can get the answer much faster than the use of ordinary computers to calculate; although we wear a suit, but our little child basically will tie a pigtail or wear a tiger hat; we use aspirin to cure colds, but we fall and winter tonic eat the same old thing, Western medicine can not see the disease will still see Chinese medicine.
So, no matter how much our culture seems to have changed now, the deepest part of our hearts is still the essence of our native culture. One day, it will assimilate these new cultural elements into our unique cultural elements. And with this assimilation process, our culture develops.
