What are the important producing areas of paleontological fossils in China?

According to the types and geographical distribution characteristics of fossils in the main producing areas, combined with the present situation of fossil protection, development and utilization in various places, the whole country is divided into six fossil areas: Northeast China, North China, Northwest China, Southwest China, South China and South China.

Northeast China mainly includes the northeast of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Liaoning Province and Heilongjiang Province. The main fossil producing areas are the Rehe biota in Beipiao, Liaoning, Jiayin dinosaur fossils in Heilongjiang, Erenhot dinosaur fossils in Inner Mongolia, Bayannaoer dinosaur fossils in Inner Mongolia, Longzhaogou stratigraphic paleontology in Jixi, Heilongjiang and late Pleistocene mammalian fossils in Cyclobalanopsis.

North China mainly includes Shandong, Hebei, Beijing, Shanxi and Henan provinces (municipalities). The main fossil producing areas are Shanwang Miocene Fossil Group in Shandong, Qingdao Dragon Fauna in Laiyang, Shandong Dragon Fauna and Footprint Nest in Zhucheng, Cambrian Trilobite Nest in Dawenkou, Cenozoic Biota in Nihewan, Hebei, Jehol Biota in Fengning, silicified wood fossils and dinosaur footprints in Yanqing, Beijing, Cretaceous dinosaur fossils in Tianzhen, Shanxi, early and middle Triassic canine fauna in Wuxiang, Yushe, Cretaceous dinosaur fossils in Ruyang, Henan and Luanchuan.

Northwest China mainly includes Xinjiang, Gansu and Ningxia. The main fossil producing areas are Jurassic silicified wood fossils and dinosaurs in Wucaiwan, Xinjiang, Triassic Julong fauna in Huangshan Street, Fukang, Xinjiang, early Paleozoic vertebrate fossils in Keping, Cretaceous dinosaur footprints in Liujiaxia, Gansu, early Cretaceous vertebrate fauna in Zhenghe, early Cretaceous fauna in Subei, Cretaceous dinosaur fossils in Lingwu, Ningxia, Devonian vertebrate fauna in Shixiagou, Zhongning and Paleogene vertebrate fauna in Tongxin.

Southwest China mainly includes Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces. The main fossil producing areas are Chengjiang fauna in Yunnan, Lufeng dinosaur fossils, Cuifeng Mountain in Qujing, Paleozoic fish fossils, Triassic marine reptiles in Guanling, Guizhou, Triassic marine reptiles in Xingyi, Weng 'an biota, Late Triassic reef in Anxian, Sichuan and Jurassic dinosaur fossils in Dashanpu, Zigong.

Central and South China mainly includes Hubei, Hunan, Anhui and Zhejiang provinces. The main fossil producing areas are dinosaur eggs in Yunxian County, Hubei Province, Paleogene fish fossils in Songzi County, Middle Devonian fish fossils in Tiaojian, Changsha, Hunan Province, Huainan biota in Anhui Province and Cretaceous silicified wood in Xinchang, Zhejiang Province.

South China mainly includes Guangdong and Guangxi. The main fossil producing areas are Cretaceous dinosaur eggs in Hengxian County, Guangxi, Nanxiong dinosaur and dinosaur eggs, Devonian paleontological fossils in Liujiang, and Bapen dinosaur fossils in Fusui County, Guangxi.

It should be noted that the division of the above areas only refers to the existing geographical divisions and the distribution characteristics of fossil groups, rather than the national paleontological fossil protection zoning plan.
