What were the three major projects in ancient China?
Mao Zedong once said: You are not a hero until you reach the Great Wall. As an ancient military defense building in China, the Great Wall has been included in the world cultural heritage, and the establishment of the Great Wall has blended the flesh and blood of tens of thousands of ancient people.
Today, it has become a symbol of the Chinese nation and a business card of our country. Because of its long history, the Great Wall has been continuously built or improved in various dynasties. Today, more than two thousand years later, the Great Wall still stands, sheltering the people of China from the wind and rain. We must continue the responsibility of our predecessors and try our best to protect the Great Wall.
Second, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.
Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is one of the oldest canals in the world. Digging for more than 2000 years, the life span keeps pace with the Great Wall. Its contribution to the Chinese nation is hard to say.
Up to now, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is still the most important golden waterway in China. It is precisely because of its existence that China's South-to-North Water Transfer Project can be carried out smoothly. As the saying goes, the predecessors planted trees and the descendants enjoyed the cool, and the canals built by the ancients definitely benefited several generations!
Third, karez
Karez is very common in Turpan, Xinjiang, China. As an underground irrigation system in desert, Karez, with a length of 5,000 kilometers, is known as the underground Great Wall of Wan Li.
As we all know, Turpan is located in a desert area and it is difficult to get water. As early as the Western Han Dynasty, people began to dig karez. The artificially dug Karez culvert extends from the Tianshan ice and snow layer to the desert. Groundwater collected from the whole Karez well is transported to residents through culverts, which brings hope to people in the desert. It can be said that the existence of Karez is the foundation of desert residents' survival.
