Development of the rank system

Before the founding of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), the rank system was twice proposed to be implemented, once during the Second National **** Cooperation period at the beginning of the War of Resistance, and once after the Chongqing negotiations between the National **** and the two parties after the victory of the War of Resistance. The rank levels proposed on both occasions were the same as those of the Kuomintang army at the time, but due to the constraints of the environment at the time, neither of the two proposed rank systems could be implemented.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, in order to strengthen the formalization and modernization of the army, the issue of the implementation of the military rank system was soon put back on the agenda. 1950 September General Cadre Department of the Ministry of Management was established, set up the "rank awards department". 1952 winter began to study the issue of the military rank system. 1952 November 26 On November 26, 1952, the General Cadre Department, in a report to Chairman Mao Zedong and the Military Commission, drew up a preliminary plan for the preparatory work for the implementation of the rank system, etc. In 1955, the PLA formally implemented the rank system.

On January 23, 1955, the Central Military Commission issued the "Instruction on the Work of Assessing Military Ranks."

On February 8, 1955, the Sixth Session of the Standing Committee of the First National People's Congress passed the Regulations of the PLA on Officers' Service, which stipulated that the PLA should adopt the internationally accepted military rank system. This rank hierarchy was set on the basis of China's traditional rank hierarchy and with reference to the rank systems of the Soviet Union, North Korea and other countries.

Officer ranks were set at four levels and 14 grades, i.e., People's Republic of China (PRC) Grand Marshal, People's Republic of China (PRC) Marshal (Grand Marshal was not actually conferred); General, Admiral, Lieutenant General, Major General; Major, Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, Major; First Lieutenant, Captain, Lieutenant, Ensign. On May 22, 1965, the Ninth Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Third National People's Congress adopted the Decision on the Abolition of the Military Rank System of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), which was put into effect on June 1, 1965.

On March 12, 1980, Deng Xiaoping, chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), proposed a military rank system.

The Military Service Law of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), which was adopted by the Second Session of the Sixth National People's Congress (NPC) on May 31, 1984, stipulated that the PLA should implement a military rank system.

In June 1985. The Central Military Commission held an enlarged meeting and decisively proposed to sever the pre-1965 rank system and "implement a new rank system".On April 13, 1988, the Regulations on the Ranks of Officers of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (Draft) were submitted to the Standing Committee of the Seventh National People's Congress (NPC) at its first meeting for consideration, and on July 1, 1988, the Standing Committee of the Seventh National People's Congress (NPC) at its second meeting passed the Regulations on the Ranks of Officers of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, at its second session, adopted the Regulations of the Chinese People's Liberation Army on Officers' Ranks, which were promulgated and put into effect. The rank system for soldiers was legislated at the same time. The newly announced rank system does not have marshals, generals and first lieutenants, but takes first class generals as the highest rank. There are three ranks and 11 grades for officers: generals: first class admiral, admiral, lieutenant general, and major general; colonels: major, colonel, lieutenant colonel, and major; and lieutenants: captain, lieutenant, and second lieutenant. Naval and air force officers have the titles "Navy" and "Air Force" in front of their ranks, respectively. Professional and technical officers, in the rank before the title "professional and technical". The rank of soldiers is divided into ranks: non-commissioned officers: non-commissioned officers, professional non-commissioned officers; non-commissioned officers: sergeant, sergeant, corporal; soldiers: private, private.

On May 12, 1994, the seventh meeting of the Standing Committee of the Eighth National People's Congress adopted a decision on amending the Regulations of the Chinese People's Liberation Army on Military Ranks of Officers. The revised regulations on military ranks set up 3 levels and 10 grades, general officers: admiral, lieutenant general, major general; school officers: major, colonel, lieutenant colonel, major; lieutenants: captain, lieutenant, second lieutenant. Army Ranks - General Officer, School Officer, Lieutenant, Civilian Cadet Soldier Navy Ranks - General Officer, School Officer, Lieutenant, Civilian Cadet Soldier Air Force Ranks - General Officer, School Officer, Lieutenant, Civilian Cadet Soldiers On September 10, 1995, the Standing Committee of the Eighth National People's Congress adopted the Law of the People's Republic of China on Reserve Officers, which stipulates that the ranks of reserve officers shall be set up in three classes and eight grades: major general; major, colonel, lieutenant colonel, and major; captain, lieutenant, and second lieutenant. The Military Service Law of the People's Republic of China, promulgated in December 1998, stipulates that the duration of compulsory military service is two years and is no longer exceeded. According to the Military Service Law, since 1999, the rank hierarchy of soldiers and the titles of professional non-commissioned officer and non-commissioned officer have been abolished on their own.

Overview of Ranking

On September 27, 1955, the 22nd meeting of the Standing Committee of the First National People's Congress passed a resolution conferring the rank of Marshal of the People's Republic of China*** and the State. Chairman Mao Zedong conferred the rank of Marshal of the People's Republic of China*** and the State on 10 persons: Zhu De, Peng Dehuai, Lin Biao, Liu Bocheng, He Long, Chen Yi, Luo Ronghuan, Xu Xiangqian, Nie Rongzhen and Ye Jianying. Premier Zhou Enlai issued a decree conferring the rank of general on Su Yu, Huang Kecheng, Tan Zheng, Xiao Jinguang, Wang Shusheng, Chen Geng, Luo Ruiqing, Xu Guangda, Xu Haidong, and Zhang Yunyi, and the ranks of 55 generals, 175 lieutenant generals, and 801 major generals of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). 1956 and 1958 saw the conferment of the ranks of general on Wang Jian'an and Li Jukui, respectively. 1956 From 1956 to 1965, 1614 people were awarded the rank of general or above by ****.The rank system was abolished in 1965.After the restoration of the rank system in 1988, the Central Military Commission held a number of conferences and seminars on 7 June 1993, 8 June 1994, 23 January 1996, 27 March 1998, 29 September 1999, 21 June 2000, 2 June 2002, 20 June 2004 and 20 June 2004, respectively, on the rank of lieutenant general. On June 20, 2004, a ceremony was held to confer the rank of Admiral on senior military officers.Between April 1996 and the end of the year, the Central Military Commission conferred ranks on tens of thousands of reserve officers. These were the first reserve officers to be awarded military ranks. By June 2004, the People's Liberation Army since the restoration of the military rank system in 1988, the Central Military Commission **** awarded 96 senior officers officers with the rank of general.

To June 2004, 1955, China's first military rank system and the People's Liberation Army since 1988 since the resumption of the military rank system, our army has 152 senior officers and police officers have been awarded the rank of general police rank. Development to the current set of ranks of our military officers *** set up three levels and ten levels: general officers three levels: admiral, lieutenant general, major general; school officers four levels, major, colonel, lieutenant colonel, major; lieutenants three levels: captains, lieutenants, second lieutenants. Our new military rank system compared with several other types of military ranks: less than the "Eastern type" rank marshal, general, lieutenant and other ranks, more colonel, less than the former Soviet Union, less than the other countries, one to two; less than the "Western type" rank marshal, brigadier general, more colonel, admiral rank below the same level; more than the "East Asian type" rank colonel one level. It should be said that, comparatively speaking, China's new military rank system is closer to the traditional "Western-type" military ranks in terms of rank setting, at least the same number of ranks. The difference is that the "Western" rank has marshal and brigadier general, our military rank system in the corresponding position is the first class admiral and colonel (in 1994 canceled the first class admiral, and the marshal of the Western countries usually do not use the basic). The highest rank in our army is general, which is the same as in most countries, and the major in our army is mainly for division cadres, as in North Korea. Since the number of divisional cadres in our army is too large, if most of them are awarded the rank of major general, the number of generals is too large; if most of them are awarded the rank of colonel, the number of generals is too low; if the rank of brigadier general is set, the number of generals is even larger, so the rank of major colonel is set. In this way, the establishment of the ranks of our army is rather special, the lieutenants correspond to the company and platoon officers, which is similar to several other types of military rank systems; while the general officers correspond to the officers above the army, and the colonels correspond to the officers of divisions, regiments, and battalions, which is of Chinese characteristics. -Lieutenants (one bar) One bar and one star: second lieutenant One bar and two stars: second lieutenant One bar and three stars: captain -Colonels (two bars) Two bars and one star: major Two bars and two stars: lieutenant-colonel Two bars and three stars: colonel Two bars and four stars: major general -Generals Instead of a bar, there is a golden pine leaf, with a gold star added directly.
