How was the bow and arrow invented?
The bow and arrow are tools that appeared in the Late Mesolithic or Early Neolithic period. In 1963, an arrowhead made of flint was found at a Late Paleolithic site in Zhiyu Village, Shuo County, Shanxi. This proved that Chinese ancestors had begun to use bows and arrows by about 28,000 years ago at the latest.
Primitive humans invented the bow after realizing that tree branches have the function of ejecting when they are bent and then stretched. Bent branches, rattan, and bamboo bark, all of which exhibit a certain degree of elasticity when stretched, were ideal materials for making the primitive recurve bow. The original materials used to make strings were thin rattan, animal sinews, and other resilient things. Arrows were made from various tree or bamboo branches.
Before the emergence of the bow and arrow, the tools used by human beings were relatively simple. And the bow and arrow is a compound tool, and its appearance is a sign of the remarkable technological progress of primitive society. It has a long range, high hit rate, easy to carry, and greatly strengthened the ability of human beings to adapt to nature and improve the environment.
