What is scada software

SCADA is Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition software.

SCADA is the English acronym for Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition, popularly known in China as monitoring and control configuration software. Literally, it is not a complete control system, but is located on top of the control device, focusing on the management of the pure software.SCADA is connected to the control device is usually a PLC (programmable controller), but also can be a smart meter, boards and so on.

Early SCADA ran with DOS, UNIX, VMS Now most run on Windows operating systems, some can run on Linux systems.SCADA has a number of tasks that make up a SCADA, and each task accomplishes a specific function. Servers located on one or more machines are responsible for data acquisition, data processing (e.g. range conversion, filtering, alarm checking, calculations, event logging, history storage, execution of user scripts, etc.).

SCADA architecture

Usually, SCADA systems are divided into two levels, client and server architecture. The server communicates with hardware devices for data processing HO operations. The client is used for human-computer interaction, such as displaying the status of the site with text and animation, and can operate the switches and valves on the site. In recent years, there is another level, through the Web published in the Internat monitoring, can be considered as a kind of "ultra-remote customer".

Hardware devices (such as PLCs) can generally be connected either point-to-point or in a bus to the server. The point-to-point connection is usually through a serial port (RS232), while the bus method can be RS485, Ethernet and other connection methods. The main difference between the bus method and the point-to-point method is that the point-to-point is one-to-one, while the bus method is one-to-many, or many-to-many.
