In the history of Chinese painting department, a group of famous artists and art educators with the most artistic achievements in modern times have gathered. It is the symbol of academic character and artistic peak of Chinese painting department that Qi Baishi, Huang Yi, Huang Yi, and Wang Yi have been hired to teach, especially Jiang Yi, Wang Yi and Li Keran. Their teaching practice and creative practice in figures, landscapes and flower-and-bird paintings undoubtedly occupy an important page in the history of modern art and art education in China, with far-reaching influence. The Department of Chinese Painting adheres to the teaching policy of basing itself on tradition, advancing with the times, dealing with the past and the present, dabbling in Chinese and foreign, and encouraging originality, and grasps the three basic links from tradition to modernity, from life to art, and from basic skills to creation, thus forming the teaching characteristics of "Trinity of tradition, life and creation" and "Close combination of copying, sketching and creation", and cultivating a large number of people who love the motherland for learning, cultivating talents, individuality and creation.

The teaching of Chinese painting department is based on the basic theory and practice of Chinese painting, and the core of traditional class is to creatively understand the connotation of China's image aesthetics; The core of sketch class is to experience the creative spirit of China's art; The core of the creative class is to inherit the cultural spirit of China, based on the times, and open up a new realm of China's humanistic aesthetics.

Undergraduates study, learn and master traditional painting techniques and experience traditional aesthetic spirit on the basis of teaching in grade one and grade two. Curriculum: sketch, line drawing, landscape copying, flower and bird copying, sketch copying calligraphy, ink and wash composition, social practice, etc.

Grade three students enter four directions (ink figure painting, meticulous figure painting, landscape painting and flower-and-bird painting) to consolidate and improve their basic ability, correctly master and understand the language of professional painting techniques, and deepen their understanding of traditional aesthetic spirit.

In the fourth grade, I entered the studio and studied under the guidance of the studio tutor.

The current head of the department is Professor Tian Liming, the executive deputy director is Professor Tang Yongli and the deputy director is Professor Hu Wei.

The fourth-grade students of Chinese painting department began to choose professional studios, and the principle of two-way choice between personal declaration and studio admission was implemented.

The Department of Traditional Chinese Painting has set up a calligraphy studio, and will soon set up freehand figure painting, meticulous figure painting, landscape painting, flower-and-bird painting, materials and performance studios (materials and performance studios teach graduate students and trainees). Studio teaching is based on consolidating, perfecting and improving the language of basic comprehensive technology, tapping students' personality potential, cultivating students' imagination and creativity, encouraging students' exploration spirit, paying attention to teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, and guiding students to give full play to their talents.
