Every year during the Lantern Festival, the nine-song Yellow River Lantern Array here will light palace lanterns to welcome tourists from all directions. The array covers an area of 150 mu and consists of nine palaces and eight trigrams. The labyrinthine light array is 2.4 kilometers long, and there are 365 such palace lanterns, which symbolizes the peace and smoothness of 365 days a year.

In the past, the Jiuqu Yellow River light array consisted of light poles, colored strips and lanterns. Because it is hand-made and there are many processes, it is a custom in the past to set up a light array every 20 years. Today, there are 9 halls, 365 lights and more than 700 cultural walls, which constitute a permanent facility. Besides lighting lanterns to pray for blessings during the Lantern Festival, it has also become a daily tourist attraction. In particular, these 700-odd cultural walls, through paintings, reliefs, brick carvings and other forms of expression, embody the traditional cultural contents of 28 Stars, 24 solar terms and so on, allowing tourists to enjoy the lanterns and see the profoundness of China's traditional culture.

The annual Lantern Festival is not only a good place for local people to enjoy the moon and watch lanterns, but also a big stage for local intangible cultural performances. In Zhangye, Woodenhead is the most popular performance in every performance, also known as the "three sticks". Operate the puppet with three sticks, tell stories and play characters according to fixed scripts and techniques such as singing, reading, doing and playing. Especially in recent years, this traditional technology has made new progress. The inheritors integrated Sichuan Opera's stunts such as changing face and fire-breathing and the dance art of Yugur, a unique minority in Gansu, into the puppet show, giving new content to traditional art.
