As one of China's Four Treasures of the Study and a typical representative of traditional handmade paper, the history of Xuan paper can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty. The word Xuan paper first appeared in Zhang Yanyuan's Record of Famous Paintings in Past Dynasties. The origin of the name of Xuan paper is due to the fact that Jingxian County in Anhui Province belongs to Xuancheng County in the Tang Dynasty, so this specialty handmade paper produced by Jingxian County in Xuancheng County is called Xuan paper.
Compared with other papers, Xuan paper is "thin and firm, thick and greasy, with ancient colors and elegant words", "tough and moist, smooth but not slippery, and Bai Rushuang color without rubbing", which is aging-resistant, non-discoloring and moth-proof, so it enjoys the reputation of "Millennium Life Paper" and "King of Paper". Because of the unique infiltration and moistening performance of rice paper, writing with it has both bone and spirit; If you paint with it, you will shine. Many classics, masterpieces, paintings and calligraphy works can be vividly preserved for future generations to enjoy.
Because of this, Mr. Guo Moruo wrote an inscription for Jingxian Xuan Paper Factory in 1964: "Xuan paper is an artistic creation invented by working people in China, and China's paintings and calligraphy can't express the wonderful taste of art without it."
Xuan Paper 19 15 won the "Gold Award" of Panama World Expo, and Jingxian County 1995 was awarded the title of "Hometown of Xuan Paper in China" by China Agricultural Society. In August, 2002, Jingxian County was approved as "the origin of rice paper" by the National Protection Office of Origin. In August, 2005, Xuan Paper was declared by Anhui Provincial Department of Culture to the Ministry of Culture, and it has been officially included in the first batch of "National Intangible Cultural Heritage List".
The production technology of Xuan paper includes soaking, ashing, cooking, washing, bleaching, beating, fishing, gluing, pasting, baking, etc. 18 processes and 100 multiple operation processes. The main raw materials are Jingxian specialty, namely, green sandalwood bark and shatian straw. Finished rice paper requires soft, smooth and smooth paper with light bamboo cord. When you look at the sun, there are patches of cloud marks. Trimming should be neat and clean, and there should be no defects such as folds, flower mouths, holes, sand and attachments on the paper.
For a long time, "Xuan paper making technology" has been a high-level secret coveted by many "corporate spies" at home and abroad. But later, it was found that it was futile to steal this secret, because its two biggest secrets could not be stolen: the first secret was two water sources and a paper mill in the upper reaches of Wuxi, which was wonderful. The second secret is "the secret is not revealed, and the paper and medicine are gone", which cannot be said.
There are more than 60 kinds of Xuan paper products, and their general functions can be divided into raw Xuan and alum Xuan Sheng Xuan is suitable for freehand brushwork in China and Fan Xuan is suitable for meticulous brushwork in China.
The base paper of rice paper can be divided into four categories according to the proportion of raw materials: cotton, clean leather, extra clean leather and pure leather. According to the thickness, it can be divided into single publicity, double publicity, second publicity and third publicity. According to the specifications, it can be divided into four-foot publicity, five-foot publicity, six-foot publicity, eight-foot publicity, two-foot publicity, six-foot publicity, eight-foot publicity, two-foot publicity and other special specifications. According to the paper grain, it can be divided into single silk road, double silk road, turtle grain, rib and so on. There are many kinds of processed Xuan paper products produced by the original paper-making after reprocessing.
The China Xuan Paper Museum inscribed by Mr. Zhao Puchu was officially opened to the public on 1993. In order to further improve the protection of Xuan paper, Jingxian Xuan paper research institute has set up a "research and protection room for traditional production techniques of Xuan paper" and is preparing to build a "Xuan paper cultural park" in Jingxian.
