Liaoning province, referred to as "Liao" for short, is named after the meaning of permanent peace in the Liaohe River basin, with Shenyang as its capital. Liaoning Province is located in the south of northeast China, bordering the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea in the south, Hebei in the southwest, Inner Mongolia in the northwest, Jilin in the northeast and North Korea across the river in the southeast, with a total area of148,600 square kilometers.

The topography of Liaoning Province is generally from north to south, and inclines from the east and west sides to the middle. The hills are divided into east and west chambers, and descend to the central plain, which inclines to the Bohai Sea in a horseshoe shape and consists of mountains, hills and plains. It spans the six major water systems of Liaohe River, Hunhe River, Daling River, Taizi River, Raoyang River and Yalu River, and has a temperate monsoon climate.

According to the historical book Gong Yu, Liaoning was established in ancient society, with Youzhou and Yingzhou in Xia and Shang Dynasties and Fenfang in Zhou as Yan State. During the Spring and Autumn Period, administrative divisions began to set up counties, the Yan State set up two counties in Liaodong and Liaoxi, and the Qin State set up three counties in Liaodong, Liaoxi and Youbeiping. Gongsun Du is located in Pingzhou. During the Puppet Manchukuo period, Liaoning was divided into three provinces: Fengtian, Jinzhou, Anton and Guandong. After the founding of New China, Liaoning was the cradle of new China industry, and contributed "1000 national firsts" to new China, and was known as "the eldest son of the Republic of China" and "the eldest brother of Liaoning".
