The suona is usually in the keys of F and E. If there are 2 people playing, then one person will play A and G to back up the small suona. If there are 2 people playing, then one of them will be playing in the keys of A and G to back up (accompany) the small suona.

The suona (Italian: suona), a Chinese folk wind instrument, is a folk instrument that has been widely practiced throughout China. Introduced from Persia, the suona has a bright, loud tone and a wooden body in the shape of a rounded vertebra, with a brass tube with a whistle at the upper end, and a brass bell (called a bowl) over the lower end, hence the common name horn. In Taiwan, it is known as the drum, and in Guangdong, it is also known as the "eight notes".

The suona is a high-pitched, loud and clear sounding instrument, which was used in the past in folk songs, rice-planting songs, drumming classes, and the accompaniment of local music and operas.
