The Chinese Poodle's Appearance

Poodles have been around for over 2,000 years and have rarely changed their look since then. Pet shows are not averse to a mix of colors, the most common being red sable, which is the color of most Westminster poodles. Black and bronze are also popular, but lighter colors are preferred at dog shows, with pure white (except for the face) poodles being the most popular. The facial color of the poodle is usually black, by dark brown eyes. Legend has it that in the Britannia poodle there is a blue (gray) color. Albino dogs are substandard. The poodle's stride is unique among dogs. Their legs are O-shaped and they waddle when they walk, because the Chinese domesticated them and offered them to emperors and consorts, eunuchs as playmates. However, if allowed to, they can keep up with larger dogs, and their O-shaped legs make them particularly attractive when walking, running and jogging. Poodles weigh about 7 to 14 pounds (3 to 6 kg) and stand 6 to 9 inches (15 to 23 cm) tall.
