The origin of the Spring Festival

The Spring Festival, commonly known as the New Year, is a traditional festival in China and my favorite festival. On the day of the Spring Festival we put up couplets, observe the New Year, set off firecrackers and so on. Why do we do these things? I heard that there is a legend about it.

It is said that in the ancient times, there was a ferocious beast called "Nian". It had a bloody mouth, was as big as an ox, and was ferocious. "It often came out to harm people. When the God of Heaven found out about this, he locked Nian up in the mountains and only allowed it to come out once a year. Once, on the 30th day of the Chinese New Year, Nian came out again. It came to the door of a family, which was wearing red clothes and had a fire in the fireplace. The child of the family accidentally knocked a pot off the cupboard with a bang. The "Nian" was scared away. People learned that the year is afraid of fire, sound and the color red.

Since then, at the end of each year, people stick red couplets instead of red clothes, firecrackers instead of sound, hanging red lanterns, pointing fire instead of fire. Over time, the custom of celebrating the New Year was formed.

This is a short story about the Spring Festival. I like the Spring Festival, and I like this little story about the Spring Festival even more.
