Ablation therapy for differentiated thyroid cancer

Ablation therapy is the use of ultrasound-guided percutaneous puncture to physically or chemically inactivate tumor cells in situ, the lesion tissue undergoes coagulative necrosis, and the necrotic tissues are naturally dissolved and absorbed by the body, so as to achieve the in situ eradication or destruction of the tumor * purpose.

1. Single nodule

2. Maximum diameter ≤1cm

3. Non-pathological high-risk subtypes (e.g., high-cell, islet cell, columnar cell carcinoma, etc.);

4. Tumor does not invade the peri-thyroidal tissues;

5. No evidence of lymph node or distant metastasis.

Ablation can be considered for low-risk micropapillary thyroid carcinoma where the patient has a need to preserve the function of the gland and aesthetics and refuses surgery.

PTMC thermal ablation therapy requires strict grasp of the indications, patients are fully informed, and under the standardized operation of qualified professionals.

Radiofrequency ablation and alcohol ablation can be used as an alternative treatment for localized recurrent lesions of thyroid cancer that are not amenable to surgery or where the risk of surgery is high.
