I. Gratitude is the basic moral law of traditional culture

The word "gratitude" is interpreted in the Modern Chinese Dictionary as "expressing gratitude for the help given by others". Gratitude is an important theme in the spiritual life of mankind, and it is a normal state of thought and feeling recognized by the secular society. Some scholars have proposed that the so-called gratitude is "a kind of awareness, emotion and behavior of recognizing sincerely the favors and conveniences given to oneself by nature, society and others, and returning them in good faith." [1] (P13) Gratitude is like a spring of the soul, which constantly moisturizes the heart, so that life is full of vitality, sprinkled with sunshine, to enjoy the beauty and happiness of life. Gratitude comes from the heart, not fake outside, close at hand, the key is only in a thought, that is, the consciousness of gratitude. The key lies in a single thought, that is, a sense of gratitude. "Gratitude and righteousness, with a desire to be rewarded" (Chen Shou, "The Three Kingdoms - Wu Zhi - Luo Tong Biography") refers to the sense of gratitude. According to Dr. Ren Xianpin, "Gratitude consciousness refers to the psychological requirement for people to appreciate the favors done to them by others and to try to repay them, and it is a kind of behavioral norm that exists universally in human societies, and it is also a basic moral law recognized by any culture." [2] (P93)

"Throwing a peach at a peach, returning it with a plum." (Poetry - Daya) The Chinese nation is the most grateful nation, our culture has recorded countless such as "loyalty and filial piety", "looking at the clouds to think of relatives", "petition to save his father", "colorful clothes to raise relatives". We have recorded countless stories in our culture, such as "loyalty and filial piety", "looking at the clouds and thinking of relatives", "writing to save father", "raising relatives in colorful clothes", "crying for bamboo shoots", "fighting a tiger to save father", and "returning to mother in a cage", The stories of gratitude, such as "The Deer's Milk Serves the Family" (Guo Jujing's "Twenty-Four Pictures of Filial Piety"), illustrate the simple folk customs of the Chinese nation; the "Xiaojing", which has been passed down from the Han Dynasty to the present day, centrally reflects the culture of filial piety in ancient China, and has played an important role in the construction of family morality in successive generations of the Chinese people; and it leaves behind the saying, "Who says that a blade of grass has a heart of gold, and who says that a blade of grass has a heart of silver? Who says an inch of grass is heartfelt, but it pays back three springs of sunshine" (Meng Jiao's "Song of the Wandering Son"), and the classic saying of "To repay kindness, to forget grudges; to repay grudges is short, but to repay favors is long" (Disciple's Rules) has been widely circulated, which reflects the recognition and reverence of ancient people for the principle of "repaying favors". The classic words of "Disciple's Rules" centrally reflect the ancient people's recognition and reverence for "repaying kindness". Gratitude is a traditional virtue of the Chinese nation, a philosophy of life, a person's correct understanding of oneself and others and social relations; gratitude is also a responsibility, know and repay, must repay, not only a kind of emotion, but also an embodiment of the realm of life. The "water drops of kindness when the spring to repay", this gentleman; "to repay kindness, ungrateful", this small man.

In traditional Chinese Confucian culture, Confucian classics abound in the guidelines of gratitude, "Here the flow of feeding feelings and the intention to pay back the kindness is really cleansing the heartstrings, touching the lungs and lungs. It embodies a sense of the roots of life, but also characterizes the relationship and feelings of human beings originating from animals and transcending animal nature." [3] (P20) human beings are different from ordinary animals is that human beings have feelings, have morality, have thought, have a sense of justice. Without a sense of gratitude, the minimum morality of being a human being is lost. Since the main culture of Chinese society has always been Confucianism, the ideology and value orientation of Chinese people are all based on the ethical thinking of Confucianism as the starting point and ultimate point. From the so-called "three years of mourning" to the so-called "difference between man and fowl" of Mencius and Wang Fengshan; from the educational purpose centered on the "understanding of human ethics" of Mencius to Zhang Juzheng's From Meng Zi's educational purpose centered on "understanding human relationships" to Zhang Juzheng's "gratitude and repayment, when there is excitement in the heart" (Reply to Zhou Lexuan, Governor of Jizhen Town); from filial piety in the family realm of blood relations to loyalty to the ruler in the political realm; from the Han Dynasty's examination and selection of filial piety and honesty to the recognition of filial piety of filial piety of a woman ......, gratitude is regarded as a fundamental ethical principle, and gratitude has become the fundamental value of traditional Chinese beliefs and beliefs. The consciousness has become the fundamental value belief and basic cultural position of Chinese tradition, and the basic moral law of Chinese traditional culture.

It is true that the maximization of the feudal sense of gratitude has led to "cannibalistic rituals" and the existence of some feudal superstitions and feudal dross. However, there is no lack of reasonable components and factors in the gratitude consciousness, which is still an excellent culture that we should inherit and surpass. The traditional moral code of the Chinese nation should not be completely abandoned, as a link to maintain and promote the progress and development of society, should still be carried forward.
