Geological data is an important basic information and results formed in geological work, which is a valuable wealth of the country, and it contains a huge potential economic value and value of use. Since the founding of New China, the state has invested more than 600 billion yuan in geological exploration work, forming a large amount of geological information (with original information, physical information and results). The development and utilization of these massive geological data and information not only has an important supporting role in geological prospecting, engineering construction and environmental protection, but also reduces the repeated investment in geological work, lowers the investment risk of mineral exploration and improves the efficiency of geological work, and the geological data and information service, as a part of the modern service industry, will greatly expand the geological data and information service through the development of clusterization and industrialization, which is important for the better realization of scientific progress. The field of geological data information service will greatly expand and enlarge the service field of geological data information through the development of clustering and industrialization, which will also play a great role in better realizing the scientific progress and guaranteeing the sustainable economic and social development.

1 Definition, characteristics, role and lessons learned from the dispersion of physical geological data

Physical geological data include: rock and ore cores, all kinds of specimens, light film, samples, etc. It is the basic geological data with important value. It is the basic geological data with important value, is the main information carrier to understand the underground geological and mineral resources, is the window for human beings to continuously improve and understand the study of the earth. It has the characteristics of originality, uniqueness, irreproducibility, high cost of reproduction and transportation, large demand for storage capacity, and restricted utilization.

(1) Preservation of physical geologic data can enable users who cannot get the huge funds needed for drilling work to go through (check) these records, thus saving a lot of human, financial and material resources.

(2) Preservation of physical geological data can provide basic information for geological research, shaft investigation and mineral development.

(3) Preservation of physical geological data can provide and help geologists to reveal more useful geological information from a macro or micro point of view (one can't use photographs or geological compilations for X-ray diffraction, chemical analysis and extraction of microscopic fossils), so as to further understand the main information of the underground geological and mineral resources, and to continuously improve the understanding and research of the earth.

(4) The painful lesson of dispersing physical geological data. Due to the lack of management of physical geological data, a large number of them have been lost, thus bringing a painful lesson to the geological prospecting work in Jiangsu Province. For example, some years ago in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province Geological Survey Institute, found in the Asian region, a large niobium-tantalum mine in the search for practice, after the investigation of the mine is endowed with the granite body in Suzhou. Since the geological work in Jiangsu, has been in Suzhou granite body before and after *** construction of a number of drill holes, obtained a large number of physical geological data. Due to the lack of good storage led to a large number of its dispersion, in this survey can not be effectively utilized, and had to spend a lot of money to carry out new drilling work. If the physical geological data in the original Suzhou granite body is well preserved, as long as it is sampled and reanalyzed, we can find a large niobium-tantalum deposit with a larger resource reserve than the current one and a higher resource reserve level, which may save tens of millions of dollars for the country's geological exploration costs.

2 The current situation of the preservation of physical geological data in Jiangsu Province

2.1 The basic situation of the preservation of physical geological data in Jiangsu Province in 1999 when the National Geological Data Survey was carried out

Since the establishment of New China, the national geological exploration units in Jiangsu Province and the mining geological team invested in geological drilling work, and the core obtained and stored in the permanent core library, simple core library, etc. The total length of the core was 51.5 million yuan. The total length of the cores kept is about 510,000 meters (except for the oil and gas sector), and the degree of intactness at that time was about 30%. Among them, 78% were from the geology and mining sector, 11% from the mining enterprises, 6% from the non-ferrous sector, 4% from the chemical sector and 1% from the building materials sector. Specimens 5600 pieces, samples of more than 26,000 pieces, more than 30,000 pieces of optical thin section.

2.2 Basic situation of Jiangsu at the time of mapping of the national survey of physical geological data in 2010

Today, 10 years later, only 11 out of 25 Class A-qualified geosurveying units in Jiangsu Province*** still keep physical geological data, and the total length of the cores that they keep by means of their permanent core banks, simple core banks, etc., is around 170,000m (except for oil and gas sector) The degree of intactness is around 80% to 90%. There are 20,000 specimens, more than 140,000 samples and more than 17,000 optical thin sections. It can be seen that if the country does not take urgent measures as soon as possible, the physical geological data will be all gone.

3 The main problems in the management of physical geological data

According to the 1999 National Geological Data Survey and the current (2010) survey of physical geological data mapping of the situation, Jiangsu Province, the management of physical geological data in the management of the problems are more prominent, mainly in the following four aspects.

3.1 Existing physical geological data loss, serious damage

Jiangsu Province in the 20th century to carry out geological work obtained by the physical geological data, over the past decades, due to the depot for many years in disrepair and leakage, some suffered from termite devouring, the core of the mine box rotting and collapsing, the core of the mine mixing, the house collapsed in the heart of the destruction.

3.2 No special funding, preservation facilities in disrepair

Jiangsu is a small province of mineral resources, the vast majority of geological exploration units are business units, enterprise management, the national geological services to reduce the cost of streamlining, and some mining enterprises are facing a lack of resources, resulting in its physical geological data without special funding, so the formation of the embarrassing status of the management of the unattended.

3.3 Inadequate understanding and insufficient attention in the management

Under the market economy, the leaders of the organization consider more about the economic benefits, and thus pay insufficient attention to the physical geological data, which do not directly produce economic benefits. Specifically manifested in the management of physical geological data, in recent years is a no manpower, no financial resources, three no material input, let it be self-sustaining.

3.4 Geological information belongs to the state's awareness is not yet in place

Geological information belongs to the state, the protection of national property security is the legal duties of each citizen, and in real life, some units due to the library maintenance funds difficult to take specific remedial measures for the destruction of physical geological information is not proactive, or to the competent authorities to report to the reflection of the higher level, and allow it to deteriorate down the road.

4 Countermeasures and Suggestions

Aiming at the above problems, combining with the actual management of physical geological data in Jiangsu Province, we put forward several countermeasures and suggestions to strengthen the information management and service of physical geological data in Jiangsu Province:

4.1 Suggestions

It is suggested that the Department of Reserves of the Ministry of Land and Resources coordinate with the Department of Geological Exploration, and in the process of the annual inspection of qualification of geological exploration units, the "Grade A Qualification" should be changed to "Grade A Qualification".

4.2 Carry out the cleaning work of physical geological data

Organized by the Ministry of Land and Resources and provincial land resource management departments, the cleaning work of physical geological data will be carried out as soon as possible, and the physical geological data with preservation value will be sorted out and counted, recorded and classified, and preserved in archives, so as to provide physical data and information resources for the establishment of the provincial collection of physical geological data in the future; and for the physical geological data which really have no preservation value, the records will be made to ensure their preservation and utilization. For some of the physical geological data which have no preservation value, they will be destroyed after making records.

4.3 Improve the level of informationization of physical geological data management

Informationization is an important means to improve the level of management of physical geological data, and it is necessary to put the construction of informationization on an important agenda, as a regular work to grasp, establish a practical and efficient mechanism for collecting, processing, handling and storing physical geological data, and to realize the unity of data of physical geological data, Coordination and standardization of physical geological data, the construction of modern storage, management software and hardware support environment, to promote the integration of the management of physical geological data and information technology, to improve the management of physical geological data.

4.4 Strengthen the cultivation of talents for physical geological data management

Physical geological data management is a systematic project involving society, technology and management, which needs to enrich the professional strength of geoscience and information technology, and build a team of compound talents. Through various forms of education and training, and strive to improve the management level and technical level, to create a reasonable size and structure of the technical team.

4.5 Initiate the construction of physical geological data collection institution

Mineral resources exploration has formed a large number of cores, optical thin film, specimens and other physical geological data, the urgent need for proper storage, if the storage facilities are poor, can not guarantee the integrity of the physical geological data, safety, will affect the protection of the physical geological data and the effective use of the data. Therefore, the construction of physical geological data collection organization is currently an urgent task, must take effective measures to start the implementation.

4.6 Strive for special funds for the management of physical geological data

The management of physical geological data is a complex systematic project involving many aspects. To do a good job, it needs to spend a lot of human, material and financial resources. It is recommended to organize personnel as soon as possible, study the declaration program, coordinate with relevant departments, and strive for special funds to provide financial security for the management of physical geological data to ensure that this work is carried out in a smooth and orderly manner.
