Why is leather clothing called "fur" now?

Fur, also called fur coat, refers to clothes made of the fur of wild or artificially domesticated animals. Fur is one of the earliest materials used by human beings to make clothes. As early as in primitive society, human beings used animal fur obtained from hunting to make clothes to keep out the cold.

After entering civilized society, especially modern society, fur is favored by more and more people because of its warmth and luxury, especially in cold areas such as Northern Europe, Russia, Japan and Canada. However, in recent years, more environmentalists and animal protectionists have resisted fur from the perspective of animal rights, thinking that fur production is cruel and immoral to animals, and the application of fur in clothing industry has declined.

Animals commonly used to make fur are rabbits, foxes, minks, beavers, ferrets, otters, sable, seals, cats, dogs, coyotes, chinchillas and opossums. Big cats are also the source of fur, but it is illegal in most countries because they are now on the verge of extinction.

Now, it is customary to call all the shops specializing in leather clothes fur companies. What makes people laugh is that calling a fur company will feel a bit low-level, but calling a fur company is better. It's like opening a barber shop with a low grade and calling a hair salon with a higher grade.
