How to get coal in my world
Coal Ore is a mineral that is common on almost all maps. It can appear at any elevation and can be found in natural caves, cliffs, and underground. Coal can be obtained directly by using a pickaxe to destroy coal ore (i.e. it's not very close in nature to real-world deposits). Coal can be combined with sticks to obtain torches, or used as fuel for furnaces or powered mine carts. When used as furnace fuel, each piece of coal provides the energy to burn 8 items.
In Survival mode, it drops 1-4 steps. Players are able to place it freely in Creation Mode (in version 0.28).
After Beta, mining a Coal Mine Stone gives you a piece of Coal. Coal Ore is very easy to find and is the only ore in the game that occurs above sea level; Coal Ore makes up 1% of all rocks in the game and is independent of altitude. The number of piles of Coal Ore varies greatly from one elevation to the next - a pile of Coal Ore at the top of a mountain might only have 5 or so, while a pile of ore at the bottom of the earth can range from 10 to 50, and that's all just child's play.
