What do EV, HEV, PHEV mean?

Do you know about EV, HEV, PHEV?

EV

Bai Battery Electrical Vehicle is the acronym for pure electric vehicles, usually called EVs. Pure electric vehicles use batteries as the vehicle's entire power source, relying only on power batteries and drive motors to provide the vehicle with driving power, mainly by the chassis, body, power batteries, drive motors, electrical equipment and other systems. It is mainly composed of chassis, body, power battery, drive motor, electrical equipment and other systems.

The advantage lies in the high efficiency of energy conversion, and can achieve the real meaning of zero exhaust emissions, no noise. The disadvantage is its biggest shortcoming in terms of range. The representative models are BYD Han EV, Tesla ModelS, Dihao EV and so on.

HEV

Hybrid Electric Vehicle is an abbreviation for Hybrid Electric Vehicle, meaning hybrid electric vehicle, which refers to the hybrid model. HEV models are driven by the traditional engine with a set of electric drive system for hybrid drive, and its main power source is still relying on the engine, except that with the addition of electric motors, it can reduce the demand for fuel. The main power source is still the engine, but with the addition of the electric motor, it can reduce the demand for fuel, generally in the start or low-speed stage rely on the electric motor driving, when the speed comes up or rapid acceleration, hill climbing and other road conditions, and then by the engine and the electric motor to work together to provide the power to drive the car.

And there is also a set of energy recovery system, which can be used to charge the battery when braking or going downhill. Representative models include the Toyota Prius, Toyota Leyland Twin Engine and Accord Hybrid.

PHEV

Plugin Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) is an acronym for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, which has two independent powertrains, a traditional engine and an EV system, with the engine as the main source of power and the electric motor as a supplement. However, what is not used with HEV is that it can charge the power battery through the plug-in port and drive in pure electric mode, and when the power battery is dead, it can drive as a general fuel vehicle through the engine.

The advantage of this is that the two powertrains exist independently of each other, so it can be driven as a pure electric model, or as a regular fuel car when it runs out of power, free from range problems. The disadvantage is that the cost is higher, the price increases, and also like pure electric models to install charging piles. The representative models are BMW 5 series new energy, BYD DM-i series.
