What are the customs of Nanjing Mid-Autumn Festival?

1, touch the autumn. Women in Nanjing have the old custom of "touching autumn". According to Pan Zongding's "Jinling Year" in Qing Dynasty, there was a scene in which Nanjing women touched autumn on the moonlit Mid-Autumn Festival. On the Mid-Autumn Festival moonlit night, they walked in groups of three and five, secretly touching the fruits and pumpkins in the orchard, indicating that they could have boys and lentils, indicating that they could have girls. Young ladies of unmarried women, in groups of three or five, touch fruits and vegetables in the orchard to predict whether they can find husbands.

2. Full moon. According to the Records of Zhengdejiangning County, on the night of Mid-Autumn Festival, enjoying the moon with family members is called "celebrating reunion" and drinking together is called "full moon". In the Mid-Autumn Festival in old Nanjing, we usually eat moon cakes, grapes, pomegranates, persimmons, pears, fragrant lotus roots, cooked ling, taro, chestnuts and osmanthus ducks, and hold family gatherings and feasts that night. After dinner, Nanjing people set up a case in their own courtyard, terrace or open space in front of the door, offering moon cakes and fresh fruits and burning incense (tying incense in the shape of pagodas and pavilions, "or cutting the ribbon and pasting it in the shape of the moon palace", and adding paper buckets to worship the moon god).

3. Go to the moon. Women in Nanjing meet in groups of three and five for a night outing, walking around the streets, visiting relatives and friends, and enjoying the moon and flowers. This is called "walking on the moon", commonly known as "dancing on the moon". "Records of Chinese National Customs" records that "those who look forward to children can get children by visiting the Confucius Temple and crossing the bridge." It's about the "Jianzi Bridge" on Yaowan Street outside Zhonghua Gate. On the night of Mid-Autumn Festival, people who have no children will come here and throw crocodiles under the bridge to get children. Over time, this bridge was mistakenly called "Top Bridge".
