Was the kimono, a traditional Japanese dress, introduced and improved from China? How far back does it go in China?
The kimono of the common people of Japan was y influenced by the sewing style of the Eastern Wu, and was therefore called "Wu Clothing". The clothing of the nobles was more influenced by the Tang Dynasty, which followed, and was called "Tōhaku". From the Kamakura period, nobles and samurai gradually began to wear kimono at home, and from the Muromachi period, the upper class nobles also began to wear kimono. Since the Edo period, the style of kimono has been similar to that of today's kimono. Today, the common people wear kimono in the general sense on festivals and celebrations, while the imperial dresses are still mainly Tang dresses with occasional kimono, and the most gorgeous dresses are the twelve monograms.
