Characteristics of Xi 'an Ancient Buildings

The ancient buildings in Xi 'an are represented by the Ming City Wall, taking the Bell and Drum Tower and the Big and Small Wild Goose Pagoda as examples, with wooden bricks as the main building materials and wooden frame structure as the main structural mode.

Mainly in civil engineering, it is related to the artistic conception of "love wood" in China's traditional ancient buildings. Even if the ancient buildings left behind are masonry structures, a considerable part of them are imitation wood, such as the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi 'an. With the passage of time, civil buildings are prone to decay and moth-eaten, and are flammable and have poor water resistance.

The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is located in Jinchangfang (now southwest of Xi 'an, Shaanxi Province) in Chang 'an in the Tang Dynasty, also known as "Ci 'en Temple Pagoda". In order to preserve the Buddhist scriptures that Tianzhu brought back to Chang 'an via the Silk Road, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built. At first, it had five floors, with a back cover of nine floors. After several changes in floors and heights, it was finally fixed as the seven-storey pagoda seen today, with a total height of 64.55438+07 meters and a bottom length of 25.5 meters.

The construction of Wild Goose Pagoda is the result of the introduction of Pagoda, an architectural form of ancient Indian Buddhism, into China with the spread of Buddhism. The Wild Goose Pagoda is one of the symbols preserved in Chang 'an City in Tang Dynasty.
