Digital mapping is a digital map based on computer, which is obtained by processing topographic spatial data through computer under the condition of external input and output equipment software and hardware. If necessary, the required topographic map or various thematic maps can be drawn by numerical control plotter.

The basic idea of digital mapping: Digital mapping is to convert all kinds of collected information about ground objects and landforms into digital forms, and transmit them to computers for processing through data interfaces, so as to obtain rich electronic maps. If necessary, draw topographic maps or various thematic maps with graphic output devices of electronic computers (such as monitors and plotters). Generalized digital mapping, also known as computer mapping, mainly includes ground digital mapping, map digital mapping, aerial digital mapping and computer map mapping.
