Why are e-cigarettes more harmful than real cigarettes?
In a new study, a team led by researchers from the University of Birmingham, UK, simulated the contact between vapor generated by liquid heating of electronic cigarettes and alveolar macrophages in the laboratory. These cells come from the lungs of healthy non-smokers.
Alveolar macrophages are immune cells that can devour and remove dust, bacteria and allergens. According to the team report, e-cigarette vapor will damage the function of alveolar macrophages. Researchers believe that this shows that the harm of e-cigarettes may be greater than previously thought.
Harm of electronic cigarette
When people use e-cigarettes, they may inhale many other undiscovered toxic compounds besides nicotine. At the same time, the second-hand smoke produced by e-cigarettes may also be harmful to health. E-cigarettes also release inhalable liquid fine particles and ultrafine particles, nicotine and carcinogens into the room. Because e-cigarettes do not produce smoke, it is easier to mislead consumers and make them have the wrong idea of safety and health.
