What is the funeral custom of Sanqi?
Sanqi is one of the traditional funeral customs in China, which means that after the death of a loved one, every seven days, forty-nine days and one hundred and eight days, family members should make sacrifices and mourn. This custom originated from the ancient Taoist belief that the soul needs a certain period of rest after death, and family sacrifice can help the soul get peace.
During March 7, family members will set up an altar at home to offer photos, flowers, incense sticks and other items of the deceased, and at the same time offer sacrifices and mourning. Some families also invite Taoist priests or monks to cross over for the dead and bless their souls.
