Dragon Boat Festival is a legal holiday.

Mid-Autumn Festival, Spring Festival, Tomb-Sweeping Day and Dragon Boat Festival are also called the four traditional festivals in China.

In May 2006, the State Council listed the Dragon Boat Festival in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list;

In 2007, 12, 14, the newly revised National Statutory Holidays and Remembrances officially listed the Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival as national statutory holidays.

Since 2008, the Mid-Autumn Festival has been listed as a national statutory holiday;

Since 2008, there are seven national holidays, namely New Year's Day, Spring Festival, Tomb-Sweeping Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Labor Day, Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. Holidays on national public holidays are concentrated by adjusting weekends, and the vacation time is released by the State Council every year.

In September 2009, UNESCO officially approved the inclusion of Dragon Boat Festival in the representative list of intangible cultural heritage of mankind, making it the first festival in China to be selected as a world intangible heritage.
