Pu'er, formerly known as Simao, is a small border town in southwest China, bordering Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar, and was once part of the ancient Dai state of Mengdaguang (Chinese for "mourning country") until 109 BC.

Today, Pu'er City has one district and nine counties under its jurisdiction, including Simao District, Ning'er, Mojiang, Jingdong, Jinggu, Zhenyuan, Jiangcheng, Menglian, Lancang, and Ximeng, where 14 ethnic groups, including the Han, Wa, Dai, Yi, Hani, and Lahu, live.

Nayun Ancient Town

Nayun Ancient Town has a history of more than 700 years, and the name "Nayun" is Dai "na veng". Nayun" means "na veng" in Dai, and "yun" is the meaning of Dai capital, i.e. the meaning of "inner capital", which is the last Dai ancient town in China. This is the last Dai ancient town in China, where the exchanges between the mainland and the frontier have formed the architectural complexes of the Dai and Han ethnic groups in different styles.

Whole Dong Town
