What kind of New Year pictures do fat dolls have with fish?

Yangliuqing New Year Pictures inherited the tradition of painting in Song and Yuan Dynasties, absorbed the forms of woodcut prints, arts and crafts and drama stage in Ming Dynasty, and combined woodcut overprint with hand painting to create a unique style with lively, auspicious and touching themes. On May 20th, 2006, this heritage was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.

Tianjin Yangliuqing woodblock New Year picture "More than a year" belongs to a kind of doll New Year picture, or originated from the "metaplasia" of Tanabata in Tang and Song Dynasties, and is mostly used as a naked child. Because there is water in the house, it is close to profit, and naked children hold more fish, so it has become a model and lasted for more than 400 years.

The doll in the painting, "Buddha's body is like a child, and its posture is martial", holding carp and lotus, taking its homophonic meaning, has become a classic in New Year pictures and is widely circulated. The doll is plump, round and full, and its clothing has accepted the advantages of Song painting. Because Tianjin is close to the capital, Yangliuqing New Year pictures are mostly used by royalty, so the colors are more gorgeous.

It is worth mentioning that in many Yangliuqing New Year pictures, there is a very classic saying of drawing dolls: "Short arms, short legs and big skull, small nose and big eyes without neck, nose and eyebrows together, never show bones."
