Cutting Mars Festival: a traditional Miao festival, which mainly stipulates rural rules. According to different surnames, the time of festivals is different. About July, August, September 27th. Once a year, according to the clan households take turns to be on duty, and the duty year is responsible for convening everyone to discuss the rural rules and regulations and related major events. Then the family members on duty should prepare wine to kill chickens, invite everyone to drink "wine that suits their heart" and propose a toast for the next duty year. Mountain Festival: In the third month of the lunar calendar, the spring mountain is bright, the spring rain is harmonious, the spring swallow returns, and everything recovers. It is the key moment of spring ploughing production, and it is also the day when the Gelao people sacrifice mountains. Mountain sacrifices are usually on the third day of March, and some are on the first or third day of March. Villages offering sacrifices to mountains are organized by their own units. There is only one surname in a village, and the mountain sacrifice is presided over by the long room hereditary; Multi-surname stockaded village presides in turn. Every year, several households are on duty, and the duty is decided by lot. Facing the sacred tree, the owner respectfully offered sacrifices, called on famous gods to enjoy the sacrifices, and prayed that the mountain gods would bless the whole village to be clean and safe, with abundant grains and prosperous livestock. Men could plow cattle and rake the ground, and women could spin and weave, and have more children.
The hillside where the sacred tree is located is regarded as a sacred place by the Gelao people and cherished. People are not allowed to be trampled by cattle and horses, to cut down trees on the mountain, and to enter the mountain to cut firewood and grass at will, which objectively plays the role of closing the mountain to facilitate afforestation.
Chinese New Year Festival: In the spring and autumn season, the busy farmland management is basically over, the crops are ripe at first, and the harvest is in sight. Gelao people believe that this is the result of the blessing of heaven and earth and ancestors, so as soon as the new grain is cooked, they welcome heaven and earth and ancestors to taste the new grain with joy and gratitude. This is the origin of the Gelao people's "Eating New Year Festival". The specific time to eat new food varies from place to place. Most of them are on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, and a few are on the first day of July. If they are leap months, they are on the first day of August.
On the first day of July, malt, bean sprouts and grain buds were sent out and hung in front of the pillars in the hall to welcome their ancestors home. They are available until July 13. On the day of eating new year's goods, new ears of grain, steamed buns, pods and so on. They were picked and sacrificed together, and the Jinshan Yinshan made of paper was placed on the table, and the incense was lit for the ancestors to enjoy, which linked the traditional dinner of the Gelao people with the ghost worship activities of the Han people in July and a half.
