The origin of traditional sky lanterns

Kongming Lantern, also called Sky Lantern, is said to have been invented by Zhu Gekongming (Zhuge Liang) during the Three Kingdoms period. Kong Ming came up with this idea. He first calculated the wind direction, then made a paper lantern out of paper and tied the distress signal to it. After the signal was discovered, Zhu Gekongming was saved. According to the narrative of the older generation, Shiliao area is a mountainous area, and bandits often haunt the mountains, so the villagers all fled to the mountains. After the bandits left, the villagers who stayed in the mountains to inform them would put up lanterns as a signal at night to inform the villagers who fled in the mountains that the mountains were safe and could go home. This is also the way to report peace.
