Science Trivia

The story of Lu Ban's invention of the saw has been passed down in folklore for thousands of years. According to legend, one year, Lu Ban was given the task of building a huge palace. The palace needed a lot of wood, so Lu Ban sent his disciples up the mountain to cut down the trees. Since there were no saws at that time, his disciples had to use axes to cut down the trees, but this was very inefficient, and the craftsmen got up early every morning and worked hard to do it. Exhausted, but also can not cut down the number of trees, far from meeting the needs of the project, so that the progress of the project is delayed again and again, and see the project deadline is getting closer and closer, which can be anxious Lu Ban. For this reason, he decided to go up the mountain to check the situation of felling trees. When he went up the mountain, because he was not careful, he inadvertently grabbed a handful of a kind of weeds growing on the mountain, but all of a sudden cut his hand. Lu Ban wondered why the grass was so sharp. So he picked a leaf to observe carefully, and found that there were many small teeth on both sides of the leaf, and when he touched it gently with his hand, these small teeth were very sharp. He realized that his hand was cut by these small teeth. Later, Lu Ban saw a large locust on a grass to eat leaves, two large teeth very sharp, open and close, and soon ate a large area. This also aroused Lu Ban's curiosity, he grabbed a locust, carefully observed the structure of the teeth of the locust, and found that the locust's two large teeth are also arranged with many small teeth, the locust is relying on these small teeth to bite off the grass leaves. These two things left an extremely deep impression on Lu Ban, and also inspired him to deep thinking. He thought, if the tools for cutting wood were made in the shape of sawtooth, wouldn't they be equally sharp? It would be much easier to cut down trees. So he made a large bamboo with many small serrated bamboo, and then to the small trees to do the test, the results are really good, a few times to pull the bark broken, and then pull a few times, the small tree poles cut a deep groove, Lu Ban is very happy. However, because the bamboo piece is relatively soft, poor strength, can not be used for a long time, pull a while, some of the small saw teeth broken, some become blunt, need to replace the bamboo piece. This affects the speed of felling trees, using too much bamboo is also a big waste. It seems that bamboo chips should not be used as a material for making saw teeth, and we should look for a material with higher strength and hardness to replace it, and then Lu Ban thought of iron chips. So they immediately went down the mountain, clear the blacksmiths to help make iron with small saw teeth, and then went to the mountain to continue to practice. Lu Ban and his apprentice each pulled one end, pulled up on a tree, only to see the two of them back and forth, and in a short time the tree sawed off, fast and labor-saving, the saw was thus invented.

Before Lu Ban, there must be a lot of people encountered the hand was cut by the weeds of a similar situation, why only Lu Ban from the inspiration, the invention of the saw, which is undoubtedly worth thinking about. Most people just thought it was a small matter of life, not worth making a fuss about, and they often forgot about it after they had healed the wound. Lu Ban, however, had a strong curiosity and the right idea, and paid much attention to observing, thinking and studying some small events in life, from which he found methods and ideas to solve problems, and even obtained some creative inventions. This tells us a truth, pay attention to many small insignificant things in life, hard work and thinking, will grow a lot of wisdom.

The ship that pushes

The king built a very big ship, but he tried many ways to push

it into the water, and they all failed. Finally they gathered all the people of the city

to push it together, but they still couldn't push it. The king then said to

Archimedes, "Please help push that big ship into the water!"

Archimedes agreed with a full heart. By careful preparation he designed a machine synthesized with a complex set of levers and pulleys, with a long pull rope at the end of the machine. Then Archimedes invited the king to come and see the show.

On this day, the beach was filled with many onlookers, it was really crowded. The big ship was more than ten feet long and several stories high. People looked at it and thought it was really a bystander, how could Archimedes move it? Archimedes was really crazy. But Archimedes then handed the king the small rope and said with great confidence, "Please pull it, and everything will be solved."

The king, half-convinced, first looked at it, but took the rope in his hand, and then just gave it a gentle pull. Suddenly, a miracle happened: the big ship moved, slowly sliding slowly towards the sea, as if a magician had performed a trick. The king's eyes widened in disbelief, and he opened his mouth in surprise before saying, "What is this, what is going on, could it be that God is helping you?"

Good little Edie

Good day, teacher and classmates!

Today I'm going to tell you a story called "Little Thomas Edison".

Edison was an American scientist, and every time he thought of some experiments, he had to try his hand at them. One day, when he was a child, he saw a hen hatching eggs, and he asked his mother curiously, "Mom, why is the chicken sitting on the nest and not moving?" Mom said happily, "The hen is hatching the eggs."

Edison was so happy to hear this from his mother that he took some eggs at home, built a nest first, spread thick grass on the ground, and then put the eggs on the nest and sat himself on it. It was not long before it was getting dark, and his family was very anxious and looked around for Edison, and finally found him. His family was angry and happy and said, "What are you doing squatting on the nest?" Edison said, "I was squatting on the nest hatching chicks." His family said, "What chicks are you hatching, and don't you go home soon."

On another occasion, Edison saw birds flying freely, and he thought, "Birds can fly, can we people fly?" He suddenly remembered that the balloon without wings can fly up to the sky, our people's body with gas can fly ah? He saw there is a vapor powder, feed his partner to eat, not long after, his partner's stomach hurts, Edison was his father severely beaten, his father also said: "turn back and not allowed to do experiments." Edison said, "If I don't do the experiment, how do I know we can fly?"

Dear students, in the future, when we find interesting things, let us also do it together, perhaps you will also become a scientist! But be sure to pay attention to safety!

Observant little Einstein

Good day, teacher and classmates!

Today I'm going to tell you a story called "The Observant Little Einstein".

Einstein was the greatest physicist of the 20th century. At the age of five and his family went on an outing, when he entered a dense forest, he disappeared, his mother looked for him everywhere, anxiously shouted at him, but he was alone in the forest gently through, a moment to pick a leaf, carefully observe the veins of the leaf, a moment to watch the sunlight from the leaves of the light spots, to the lake, he squatted down, a motionless look at the lake undulating microwaves. When his mother managed to find him, he was sitting on the ground, gazing at a line of ants busily traveling back and forth. As soon as his mother took little Einstein's hand, she found that he was staying close to where she was shouting, "Why don't you oblige your mother by making her run back and forth." "No mommy I didn't hear you." Little Einstein said and his mom had to sigh slightly.

Observant Einstein grew up and became a great physicist, his greatest contribution to astronomy is his theory of cosmology, greatly promoting the development of modern astronomy.
