What energy-saving technologies are available in the data center?

Raise the temperature of the data center

In order to ensure the good operation of data center equipment, the data center keeps constant temperature and humidity all year round, and the temperature is maintained at 20℃~24℃. According to international standards, the average temperature is 18℃~22℃ in winter, 2 1℃~25℃ in summer, and the temperature change rate is 5℃/h, so the temperature is very important for the data center. According to the general evaluation method, the reliability will decrease by 25% when the temperature increases by 10℃. The data center will remain low all the year round. At present, data center equipment will do high and low temperature experiments, and the upper limit of working temperature can reach 45℃. Therefore, properly increasing the operating temperature of the data center can not only save energy, but also not increase the failure rate of equipment. At present, improving the operating temperature of the data center has become the common sense of the data center industry. Some data centers specialize in purchasing temperature-resistant equipment to reduce the energy consumption of data centers. Generally speaking, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages by properly increasing the operating temperature of the data center without spending a penny.

Evaluate the operation of data center equipment.

There are many kinds of equipment in the data center, many of which are old equipment. The working efficiency of the old server is only 1/3 of that of the new server, but the energy consumption can reach three times that of the new server. Therefore, it is necessary to eliminate these old equipment in time and move the business to other servers. Although it adds some burdens to other servers, the overall energy consumption is reduced. Many data centers have a large number of idle servers, which may run some applications periodically, but remain idle for a long time. Therefore, it is necessary to shut them down or reassign their work tasks, regularly evaluate the running load of data center equipment, and adjust unreasonable and idle equipment in time. The evaluation criterion is whether the CPU operation of these devices is at a normal level. The long-term CPU utilization rate of some devices is only 20%, which is too low, so it should be adjusted in time. Generally, the CPU of the server can be maintained at about 50%, which can ensure the normal operation of the business.

Application of Virtualization Technology

Deploying virtualization in the data center can improve the efficiency of equipment use. Usually, a server can only run one or more services. Through virtualization technology, the server is virtualized into multiple devices, which all run independently, thus improving the utilization rate of the server. This can reduce the number of servers running in the data center at the same time, and start some servers when new services need to be added. Generally, the running power of the server is about 400 watts, and such a server consumes more than ten kilowatt-hours of electricity for a continuous day. Virtualization can solve the problem of low utilization or high energy consumption within the planning scope.

Turn off unnecessary electrical equipment in time.

Most data centers are managed remotely, and rarely enter the equipment area of the data center. When we enter the computer room of the data center, we often find it brightly lit, and these computer rooms may not come in alone for several days. A large number of lighting lamps not only waste energy, but also increase the temperature of the computer room.
