Competency planning: how to build a career development competency tree?
A few years ago, I worked in a top 500 foreign company. Besides going to work normally every day, I want to learn something to make my career develop better.
So, I went crazy to study. As a result, I learned a lot, but just like a flower left in the desert, it was blown away by the wind and could not take root, let alone bring much benefit to my career development. The only good thing, perhaps, is that I mistakenly became a speech coach.
02.
You see, I study hard, but what's the problem here? Learning is not systematic and there is no ability tree.
What are the disadvantages? There are at least three.
This is like a scattered weed, because there is no systematic goal in learning, and the content of learning is also scattered, so it is easy to hammer one thing in the east and another in the west. It has no effect on the accumulation of personal ability.
Learning for the purpose of textual research and lectures is a kind of surprise learning, and its main goal is not application. So it's hard to really internalize it into your own ability.
The accumulated ability is a point and does not constitute a system. Even many times, I am at a loss about what I should learn. What should I focus on?
03.
Therefore, it is very important to build a capability tree.
What is a competency tree?
The ability system we build is like a big tree, with trunk, branches and leaves.
The backbone is our application goal. For example, I want to be a speech coach. I want to be a person who can help more people enjoy it and say something valuable to others. Then this is the application goal, which is the trunk of the tree.
With this business goal, we must decompose the first-level functions. Like a branch.
For example, what skills does a speech coach need? General first-level abilities include: core quality, basic ability, basic knowledge and professional skills.
After having branches, we have to carry out secondary decomposition, that is, leaves
For example:
Core qualities include: congenital conditions and acquired training.
Basic abilities include:
* Personal level: learning ability, thinking ability, expression ability and observation ability.
* Team level: communication ability, coordination ability and leadership ability.
Basic knowledge includes general knowledge, industry knowledge, domain knowledge and product knowledge.
Professional skills include: general skills and professional skills.
After the secondary decomposition, the tertiary decomposition can be continued. Decompose layer by layer until it can be operated on the ground.
04.
Knowing what skills you need, the next step is how to cultivate them.
First, build your own theoretical construction.
That is, build your own knowledge system framework.
You can use Evernote to establish multi-level directories and gradually establish your own system knowledge.
Secondly, establish your own achievements.
Look for various ways and channels to practice and make achievements.
For example, if you want to become a copywriter, you must persist in writing, go to actual combat, take orders after reaching a certain ability, and optimize your progress in practical feedback.
Finally, build your own communication construction.
Share and spread your own achievements and cases on various platforms to establish your own expert status.
In this era, you don't have to be in a traditional enterprise to show your talents. This era has given ordinary people many opportunities to show, as long as you work hard enough, be careful enough and be cruel enough.
In short, by applying what you have learned and building your own ability system, you can also shine.
I interpret every compliment you give as like it.
