China traditional big flowerpot
From the classification, flowerpots are generally divided into: pottery flowerpots, porcelain flowerpots, purple sand flowerpot flowerpots, plastic flowerpots, glass flowerpots, cement bonsai, wood and stone flowerpots and so on. Wood and stone flowerpots are not common. There were bronze flowerpots in ancient times, which have been abandoned for a long time now.
The vessel cultivation of flower seedlings has a long history, and China is the earliest country to cultivate and eat flowers in the world. About 3000 years ago to the late Neolithic period, it was the embryonic stage of flower cultivation and application in China. Pottery pieces engraved with potted plants about 7000 years ago were unearthed in the Neolithic site in Hemudu, Yuyao County, Zhejiang Province, indicating that our ancestors knew to cultivate plants in containers at that time, and there were records of cultivating flowers in Oracle Bone Inscriptions for more than 0/000 years BC.
By the Zhou Dynasty, people had cultivated and raised flowers, birds, fish and insects in the garden. There were written descriptions of chrysanthemums in the Spring and Autumn Period. By the Qin Dynasty, citrus, persimmon, magnolia, maple and other fruit trees and flowers had been planted. More than two thousand years ago, in the Han Dynasty, there were dozens of varieties of plum blossoms with dense density, and there were also planting experiences of moving flowers from south to north, such as moving longan and litchi to the north for indoor cultivation.
Tomb of Prince Zhang Huai in Tang Dynasty
Flower-holding picture of Prince Zhang Huai's tomb
By the Tang dynasty, the cultivation of flowers had reached a considerable level, and flowers were flourishing, especially peony, and plant bonsai developed rapidly. 197 1 year, a mural with two handmaids holding bonsai was found on the wall of the tomb of Prince Li Xian, the son of Tang Gaozong and Wu Zetian, excavated in Shaanxi. One of them holds a round flowerpot with rockeries and trees with red fruits and green leaves. From the table held by the imperial secretary, we can see that the imperial court attached great importance to bonsai art at that time, which proved that China had bonsai before 1200 years ago. At the same time, the pottery industry is also very prosperous, such as Huozhou Kiln, Sizhou Kiln, Yue Zhouyao and many other firing sites, all over the country.
Picture books of Song people listening to music
In the Song Dynasty, the bonsai art was more perfect. Bonsai in Song Dynasty can be divided into "tree bonsai" and "landscape bonsai", and there are still flower pots in Song Dynasty. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, after summing up the previous experience, the flowerpots were classified, and different flowerpots raised different flowers.
This flowerpot is used to grow flowers. You need to know which flowerpot is suitable for which flowers, or you need to know the nature of flowers. The environmental conditions that affect the growth and development of flowers mainly include temperature, light, moisture, air, soil and nutrition. Some flowers like acid, some like alkali, some are cold-resistant and cold-resistant, some are waterlogged and heat-resistant, and their personalities are different. Because the area of potted flowers is limited, the roots of flowers can neither absorb more nor less nutrients and water, so the requirements for pots are generally no water accumulation, good air permeability, which is conducive to root breathing.

Ceramic flowerpots can be made of various mineral clays including porcelain clay, and the firing temperature is relatively low, mostly between 700- 1000℃. The matrix is basically sintered and will not decompose when it meets water, but its porosity and water absorption are high. Representative flowerpots are red pottery flowerpots and gray pottery flowerpots (pottery pots). Red pottery flowerpots were first discovered as daily necessities in Hemudu period. Pottery in the kiln, because the air enters the kiln chamber, the degree of oxidation is strong, and most products form red pottery; The pottery in the kiln adopts the method of water seepage at the top of the kiln, from red pottery to gray pottery. The firing of black pottery should be attributed to the effects of smoking and carbonization; White pottery is made of white clay or clay with low iron content. Pots made of pottery are cheap, the raw materials can be obtained everywhere, the firing temperature is about 800℃, and the air permeability is good, but the disadvantages are poor frost resistance, weak structure, poor durability and short service life.
Ceramic flowerpot
Porcelain flowerpots (bottles) are made of porcelain clay with high alumina content, that is, aged soil. The firing temperature of porcelain is at least above 1 100℃, and the tire material is basically porcelain, with low porosity and water absorption and crisp tapping sound. The advantages are beautiful, clean and sanitary, and suitable for viewing. At present, cultivated flowers are usually transplanted to increase ornamental and hygienic quality, or fresh cut flowers are inserted as flower arrangements. Disadvantages: Because of poor air permeability, porcelain pots can't be directly used for planting flowers, and can only be used as ornamental parts. If it is used for planting flowers, it is best to choose some water-resistant and moisture-resistant plants, such as dwarf ornamental bamboo, Araceae, ferns, arrowheads, and hanging bamboo plums.
Modern purple sand flowerpot
Purple sand flowerpot refers to the ceramic products between pottery and porcelain produced in Yixing, Jiangsu. They are made of local specialty purple sand mud, and the firing temperature is about 1 100℃. Purple sand flowerpot is not glazed inside and outside, making full use of the true colors of mud, keeping tiny pores, and having good air permeability, but being impermeable to water. After firing, the color is warm, simple and lovely, characterized by compact structure and moderate air permeability. The advantage of purple sand flowerpot is that it has both the breathability and the aesthetics of ceramic flowerpots, and it is simple and elegant, not flattering, and is deeply loved by literati.
Plastic flowerpots are flowerpots that appeared in modern times because of the high price and frequent watering of traditional flowerpots. They are characterized by poor water permeability, low price, simple production, not easy to destroy, relatively durable, suitable for mass production, and can be made into various colors and shapes. Plastic flowerpots are the biggest selling flowerpots at present, and they are generally the first choice for professional flower growers or farmers who breed a lot of flowers and trees.
Glass flower pots (bottles) are often used as vases for arranging fresh cut flowers. In recent years, flowerpots popular for miniature landscapes or small water-loving plants are characterized by impermeability, unbreakability, beauty and hygiene.
Wooden flowerpot

Cement flowerpot
Cement flowerpots are mainly used to place rock bonsai, not to raise flowers. Wooden and stone flowerpots are generally rare, only a few of them are used for artistic appreciation or outdoor enclosure, and there are few practical uses in the family. As for bronze flowerpots, people have abandoned them today.
To sum up, from the price and ornamental point of view, porcelain flowerpots, purple sand flowerpot, glass, pottery pots and plastic flowerpots are in turn. From a practical point of view, followed by pottery pots, purple sand pots, plastic flowerpots, porcelain flowerpots and so on. From the point of view of family placement and maintenance, it is followed by purple sand pots, porcelain flower pots, clay pots, plastics and others. In terms of cost, plastic flowerpots have the lowest cost and the largest sales volume at present. Because of the popularity of plastic flowerpots and the factors of soil and water conservation in recent years, the cost of pottery pots has risen, which is hard to see. In the last century, plastic flowerpots were the most popular and suitable flowerpots for growing flowers. Purple clay pots have always been high-end flowerpots, but in recent years, some merchants have used chemical pots to pretend to be purple clay pots, and the chemical pots have poor air permeability, which leads to the poor reputation of purple clay pots. In fact, the real teapot is a very good flower carrier, with high ornamental and appreciation space. As for porcelain flowerpots, it is suggested that ordinary flower lovers should be cautious, because the low-grade ones have no collection value and cannot conserve flowers, while the high-value ones are easy to be broken and lost, so they are better for flower arrangement, but water-resistant plants can still be chosen.
In my humble opinion, purple sand flowerpot and earthen pots are the best flowers for conservation. They are breathable, water-free, beautiful and generous, and can be used for appreciation and maintenance. They are the best choice for flower lovers.
