What stages did the evolution of dragon patterns go through?
The dragon pattern has a long history, and the evolution of its image is generally considered to have gone through several stages: in the first stage, the dragon pattern on Shang and Zhou bronzes began with the dragon pattern mussel shell in Puyang, Henan Province, and was more related to the bronze plate of the water vessel. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, dragons were coiled. In the second stage, during the Han, Wei and Six Dynasties, dragons were like beasts, including white tigers, suzaku and Xuan.
The combination of martial arts forms a series of patterns, representing orientation and implying the combination of yin and yang and five elements; In the third stage, during the Sui, Tang and Song Dynasties, the dragon changed from an animal image to a plane image. In the fourth stage, during the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, dragons became longer and longer, leaving animals and becoming snakes, which were more used to represent yin and yang than phoenix, or were used by rulers to represent emperors and queens to reflect kingship.
