Middle school students' expository composition: Beijing Hutong

During the summer vacation, my mother took me to Beijing to play. When I first arrived in Beijing, I was very confused about hutong. First of all, the hotel we are going to stay in is Dadoufu Hutong, and the other hutongs connected with this Hutong are Bao Fang Hutong and Xiaopigeon Hutong ... The strange name of Hutong immediately aroused my curiosity, and I want to explore it carefully.

I looked it up on the Internet. It turns out that the name of Hutong began in Yuan Dynasty, and it is said that it means "water well" in Mongolian. After each hutong is formed, people usually give it a name. Once this name was accepted by most people, it became the symbol of this place.

Most hutongs in Beijing are named after their images, plants, places and official institutions. What I like best is their image. For example, a wide alley is called "Wide Street", a narrow alley is called "Narrow Lane", a winding alley is called "Badaowan", a rectangular one is called "Box", a long one is called "Pole" and a thin one is called "Small". All the hutongs I saw were old houses, but many of them were planted with small flowers, covered with vines and raised pigeons ... I felt that their lives were leisurely and carefree, and there were countless warm homes hidden in the depths of the hutong.

There are many attractions in Beijing, but my understanding of hutongs makes me want to settle down in a quiet hutong one day.
