What immortal is Wenquxing?

In China myths and legends, Wenquxing is the immortal who is in charge of literary transportation.

Wenquxing is also called wenchang star or Wenquxingjun. In Chinese folk beliefs, Wen Quxing is a fairy who wishes students success in exams. Because he is in charge of literature and exam results, he is considered to be the patron saint of students. In traditional culture, the image of Wen Quxing is usually an old man with long beard and white hair, holding a feather fan, wearing an official robe and a kind face.

Wenquxing is regarded as a symbol of wisdom in folk beliefs, so many students worship Wenquxing as an idol, hoping to get his blessing and shelter. In addition to being honored as a literary star in China's traditional culture, literary stars are also used as adjectives by some modern writers and artists to describe smart, talented and literary people.

An introduction to folk beliefs in Wenquxing;

In general folk beliefs, prophecies and literary works, it is believed that Yi Yin of Yin Shang, Bigan of the rich man, Bao Zheng, Fan Zhongyan, Wen Tianxiang, the direct bachelor of Yinlongtuge of Kaifeng Prefecture in Song Dynasty, and Xu Shilin, the son of Xu Xian, the hero of White Snake Legend, are all reincarnated by satellites.

However, the most well-known incarnation of Wenquxing refers to Zitong God (Emperor Wenchang), whose ancestral home is in the Jin Dynasty and surname is Zhang Mingyazi. He lived in Qiqu Mountain, Zitong County, Sichuan Province. In two years, Kangning of the Eastern Jin Dynasty was killed when he rose up against Fu Jian, the former Qin Dynasty, and was regarded as Zitong God. Houchuan students believe that Zitong God has the power to protect the literary movement, and they go to sacrifice every exam.

When Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty entered Shu, he passed by Qiqu Mountain, feeling that Zhang Yazi was dashing, so posthumous title became the left prime minister. Song Zhenzong was named "God Wu Wensheng filial piety loyal monarch", and Song Guangzong was named "loyalty to Wen Ren Wu filial piety sage king". When he was in office, he was awarded the title of "God is filial and loyal to the monarch", which was extended for three years (13 16) and was awarded the title of "Lu Di Fuyuan Civilized Man". So Zitong God Zhang Yazi was called "Wenchang Emperor".
