The Relationship between Christianity and Hebrew Culture
Since the end of 1 century, there has been a tendency of anti-Semitism or anti-Judaism in the Christian world, which has intensified in the development of Christianity. Therefore, the cruel movement of anti-Semitism or extermination of Jews is constantly staged in the western Christian world. Its extreme is Hitler's genocidal atrocities against Jews.
Before Christianity came into being, the earliest culture in the west was Greek culture, then Roman culture, and then Christian culture in the Middle Ages began to appear.
"Christ" is actually the "Messiah" predicted by Judaism in the Prophet in the 5th century BC. "Messiah" is Hebrew, meaning "savior"; In Greek, the savior is called "Christ", so "Christ" is "Messiah". With the development of Christianity, it got rid of the narrow nationalist fence of Judaism and began to spread to the vast Roman world. At that time, the Roman Empire was a superpower spanning three continents: Asia, Africa and Europe, and regarded the Mediterranean as an inland sea.
So when Christianity spread to the Romans, it became a worldwide religion. Therefore, the meaning of the word "Christ" is no longer just to save the country and the people and revive the Jewish nation in a narrow sense, but to save the savior of all those who believe in him, so "Christ" has universal significance. The so-called universal religion refers to a wide range of religions with worldwide influence.
Hebrew culture, specifically, refers to Jewish culture, and Hebrews are Jews. The original meaning of the word "Hebrew" is "from the other side of the river" At first, Jews crossed the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and immigrated to the land of Canaan, which is today's "Palestine". They were called "Hebrews" by the locals, that is, people from the other side of the river.
