Dragon Boat Festival

Dragon Boat Festival is the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year. It is also known as the four traditional folk festivals in China along with the Spring Festival, Tomb-Sweeping Day and Mid-Autumn Festival.

Dragon Boat Festival originated in China, and started in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, with a history of more than 2,000 years. There are many historical legends, the most famous of which is in memory of Qu Yuan.

Qu Yuan was a courtier of Chu Huaiwang in the Spring and Autumn Period. He recommended talents and advocated Qiang Bing as a rich country. He wants to fight against Qin with Qi. In fact, both Qi and Chu were quite powerful, but Qu Yuan's suggestion was resisted by the noble prince, and Qu Yuan was eventually exiled.

During his exile, he wrote immortal masterpieces, such as Li Sao and Tian Wen. In 278 BC, the State of Qin invaded the State of Chu, and the State of Chu perished. Qu Yuan was very sad. He wrote the last poem "Huai Sha" on the fifth day of May, and then threw himself into the Miluo River. Die for writing patriotic music.

After Qu Yuan's death, the people of Chu were deeply saddened. People came to mourn and rowed boats into the river to salvage. Some people also throw rice balls into the river to offer sacrifices to Qu Yuan. To commemorate Qu Yuan, people began to race dragon boats, eat zongzi and mix rice wine to commemorate Qu Yuan.
