Development of fishing boats in Hong Kong

The early fishing boats in Hong Kong were developed from sailboats. Sailing boats, as the name implies, use wind as power. A mast is erected in the center of the hull, and a sail made of bamboo and canvas is hung on the mast. The wind blows on the sail to generate power and make the ship move forward. This is the picture of "smooth sailing" that we see in the painting. But real sailboats are not so interesting and quite dangerous.

Sailing boats not only need the hull to move forward, but also pull nets to engage in production, and then develop machines and sailboats. A motorized sailboat is a fishing boat with both machines and sails. At that time, the horsepower of civil aircraft was not large, but it was better than relying solely on wind power.

In the late 1970s, Hong Kong's fishery and fishing boat manufacturing industry rose rapidly. After the country's reform and opening up, Guangdong has provided a large number of foreign workers for Hong Kong, which has made Hong Kong's fishery and fishing boat manufacturing industry develop by leaps and bounds. Older fishing boats were introduced to the coastal areas of Guangdong, and Hong Kong produced a large number of fishing boats, which also promoted the fishery and economic development of Guangdong as a whole.

Fishing boats in Hong Kong include double-towed fishing boats, single-towed fishing boats, shrimp boat fishing boats, gill fishing boats, purse seine fishing boats and light fishing boats.
