Types of coking coal

According to the coal coalification degree from low to high, coal can be divided into lignite, bituminous coal and anthracite. Traditionally, the raw coal with certain caking property, which can be coked in the coking chamber coke oven and used to produce coke with a certain quality, is collectively referred to as coking coal. According to China's coal classification standard, gas coal, fat coal, gas fat coal, 1/3 coking coal, coking coal, lean coal and lean coal in bituminous coal all belong to coking coal, while lignite, anthracite, long flame coal, non-stick coal and lean coal in bituminous coal all belong to non-coking coal. China's coking coal reserves are uneven, gas coal (including 1/3 coking coal) is the most, followed by coking coal. In addition, there are unclassified 1.96%.

Features: It is a kind of coking coal with the best coking performance. High carbonization degree, good adhesion, and high thermal stability colloid can be generated when heated. If coking coal is used alone, high-quality coke with large lump, few cracks, high strength and good wear resistance can be obtained. When coking alone, it is easy to push coke because of the large expansion pressure.

Application of fat coal: alkaline smelting and coking coal blending.

Features: It is the coal with the strongest cohesiveness and moderate coalification, which can produce a large amount of colloid when heated. Coking with fat coal alone can produce coke with good fusibility and high strength, but coke has many transverse cracks, high porosity and fragility, so it is often combined with gas coal, lean coal or weak caking coal for coking.

1/3 uses of coking coal: alkaline smelting and coking coal blending.

Features: It is a transitional coal between coking coal, fat coal and gas coal. High volatile and strong caking coal. When coking with this coal alone, coke with good fusibility and high strength can be produced. During coking, the coal blending amount of 1/3 coking coal can fluctuate in a wide range, and high-strength coke can be obtained, which is also the basic coal in good coking coal blending.

Application of lean coal: alkaline smelting and coking coal blending.

Features: It is the coking coal with the highest degree of coalification, with low volatile matter, less gum produced after heating than coking coal, and high softening degree. When coking with lean coal alone, coke with large size, few cracks and good compressive strength can be obtained, but this kind of coke has poor wear resistance, and it is better to use lean coal as coking coal blending.

Application of gas-fat coal: alkaline smelting and coking coal blending.

Features: It is a kind of fat coal with high volatile gum. The coking property of gas-fat coal is between fat coal and gas coal, and a large number of gas and liquid chemical products can be produced by coking alone.

Uses of gas coal: alkaline smelting and coking coal blending.

Features: It is a kind of coking coal with low carbonization degree, which can produce more volatile and tar when heated, and the thermal stability of colloid is lower than that of fat coal. Gas coal can also be used for coking alone, but the compressive strength and wear resistance of coke are poor, and coke is mostly slender and fragile with many longitudinal cracks. Adding gas coal to coking elbow can improve gas production rate and recovery rate of chemical products.

1/2 uses of sticky coal: alkaline smelting and coking coal blending.

Characteristics: The caking coal in 1/2 is a medium caking bituminous coal with high volatile content, and it is the coking coal with the lowest carbonization degree. Part of the medium-viscosity coal can produce coke with certain strength when coking alone, which can be used as raw material for coking with coal blending; When another part of caking coal with weak caking property is coking alone, the strength of coke produced is poor and the coke powder rate is high. Therefore, this kind of coal can be used as gasification coal or power coal, and it can also be blended properly when coking.
