1, Zi Lu borrowed rice to honor his parents

Zi Lu, at the end of the Spring and Autumn period in the state of Lu. Among the disciples of Confucius, he was famous for his political affairs. He was especially known for his bravery. However, when Zi Lu was young, his family was very poor, and he lived on coarse grain and wild vegetables for many years.

On one occasion, his elderly parents wanted to eat rice, but there was no rice at all. Zi Lu thought that if he could borrow some rice from his relatives over a few mountains, he would be able to satisfy his parents' request.

So the little Zilu walked ten miles over the mountains and brought back a small bag of rice from his relatives' house. Seeing his parents eating fragrant rice, Zilu forgot his fatigue. The neighbors praised Zi Lu for being a brave and filial good boy.

2. The story of Cao E, a young girl, who threw herself into the river to carry her father

During the Han Dynasty, in Shangyu County, Zhejiang Province, there was a girl named Cao E, whose father was called Cao Xu, a sorcerer. On the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, May 5, he was on a boat on the river to welcome the gods when he accidentally fell into the river and drowned.

Cao E was only 14 years old at the time, and she searched for her father's body along the river, but couldn't find it anywhere. Cao E wept by the river for seven days and seven nights, then jumped into the river. After five days, Cao E carried her father's body on her back, and the two of them surfaced together.

When people near and far saw this, they were shocked. The magistrate of Shangyu County, Dushan, reported the incident to the court. The emperor issued an edict to honor Cao E's filial piety and built a shrine for her by the river. Cao E is still worshipped and honored today.

Significance of filial piety and respect for the elderly:

Filial piety and respect for the elderly is a traditional virtue of the Chinese nation, and is a valuable spiritual wealth inherited from our forefathers. Since ancient times, China has had the traditional virtue of filial piety and respect for the elderly, and is therefore known as the "State of Honesty and Etiquette".
