What are the characteristics of Jewish weddings?
Jewish weddings are generally grand and distinctive. Weddings are usually held in synagogues, but the Orthodox Church prefers to hold them in the open air.
On the day before the wedding, the bride and groom will fast and pray to show that their new life is sacred. The number of people attending the wedding is the same as the quorum attending prayers in the synagogue. There should be no less than ten people and there should be two witnesses. Candles are lit at the wedding, and the groom stands under the canopy and puts a ring on the bride. He said in Hebrew, "According to the laws of Moses and Israel, this ring allows you to give it to me." The marriage certificate is read by the rabbi or distinguished guests in public and signed by the newlyweds and witnesses. The bride and groom should drink a little wine and accept the blessing of the guests. The final procedure of the wedding was that the groom crushed a glass with his foot, which was said to commemorate the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem.
If the marriage is unhappy, Judaism allows divorce. Divorce must be agreed by both parties, and a certain ceremony must be held, attended by rabbis and relatives and friends. Divorced couples should sign divorce documents. Only by holding a valid divorce certificate can both men and women rebuild their families.
