Characteristics of Chaozhou Big Gong and Drum

The parade of Chaozhou gongs and drums often uses a big flag to clear the way. The flag on the shoulder is called "Biao", and bamboo with tail is used as flagpole. The mascot is hung on the pole, and the flag is usually held by young women. The girl carrying the flag wears only socks and no shoes, and wears sunglasses, which is graceful. Then there are the golden married couples, dressed up, carrying firecrackers and eight treasures on their shoulders, bringing good luck to people. The dolls also dress up as adults and perform some fragments of traditional Chaozhou opera.

After the huge pioneer, there is a continuous sound of gongs and drums.

Chaozhou gongs and drums have two ways of playing: long-line sets and brand sets. Long-line sleeves are common in celebrations and holiday parades, and some play long-line drums; "Two-board gongs and drums" and "Three-board gongs and drums". The band's team is like a long queue, magnificent and spectacular. The brand cover consists of many brand songs with different Gongyin systems. The complete set of songs mainly expresses historical stories, with compact structure, alternating density, comprehensive techniques, unique style, strong standardization and rich local characteristics.
