The story of nine-color deer

1. Story: In ancient times, on the deserted Gobi Desert, the camel caravan of Persian merchants got lost because of a sandstorm, and suddenly a nine-color deer appeared to show them the way. Jiuse deer returned to the forest and heard someone calling for help. It turned out that a snake charmer accidentally fell into the water while collecting medicine. Jiuse deer hurried to carry him to the stone shore. The snake charmer was grateful, and the nine-color deer only begged him not to tell others what happened to him. The snake charmer promised again and again, and swore to heaven. Persian merchants went to the ancient palace and talked with the king about adventures in the desert. Who knows that the queen insisted on wearing nine-color deer skin. The king was helpless and posted a notice: those who caught the nine-color deer will be rewarded. The snake charmer forgot profit and righteousness, and told the king that he designed to introduce the nine-color deer into the encirclement. When he pretended to fall into the water again, when the deer heard the news and came to save him, the waiting warriors all shot arrows. Who knows that the nine-color deer releases divine light and the sharp arrows are all reduced to ashes. The nine-color deer exposed the ugly behavior of the snake charmer to the king, and the king was deeply disturbed. The snake charmer was scared to retreat again and again, fell into a deep pool and drowned, and the wicked finally got the punishment he deserved.

2. The Nine-color Deer Classic depicts eight plot parts of the story: saving people, saluting the drowning person, the king and queen telling stories, the nine-color deer resting on the way to catch deer, the drowning person referring to the deer and the nine-color deer's statement. When dealing with these plots, The Classic of Nine-color Deer abandons the traditional sequential arrangement, but puts the climax of the story, that is, the statement of the nine-color deer, in the center of the picture, fully considering that the impact of murals on the viewer's vision occurs in an instant, first attracting the viewer's attention with the most powerful picture, and then letting him look for the plot in turn to read and understand the whole story. So, centering on the Statement of the Nine-color Deer, on the left side of the painting are three plots of the nine-color deer, namely, saving people, saluting the drowning person and resting, while on the right are the king and queen, the drowning person telling stories, the way of catching deer and the drowning person referring to the deer. This kind of picture processing is very infectious. This technique also shows that the painter's expression of his works at that time was very free and flexible, and was not limited by time and space. At the same time, this practice of attaching importance to visual effects based on the characteristics of painting materials is commendable even today.
