Traditional Energy in Northwest China

(1) Northwest China is rich in mineral resources. Rare earth mines in Baiyun Obo, nickel mines in Jinchang, high-quality coal in Shizuishan and Carboniferous wells, oil in Karamay and southern Xinjiang, lignite in Yimin River and Huolinhe River all occupy an important position in the country. Tarim River is the longest inland river in China, with a total length of 2 176 km. This river is located in the arid area of China and flows through the northern Tarim Basin.

(2) A Tianshan Mountains runs through the central part of Xinjiang, dividing Xinjiang into two parts, with southern Xinjiang in the south and northern Xinjiang in the north. Tianshan Mountains are tall and there are some basins among them, among which Turpan Basin and Hami Basin are the larger basins.

(3) Northwest China is the main pastoral area in China, and livestock products such as meat, milk, skin and wool occupy a prominent position in China. Inner Mongolia prairie, Hexi corridor and Tianshan pasture are important animal husbandry bases. Oasis agriculture refers to agriculture that relies on surface water, groundwater or spring water for irrigation in desert areas. There are many oasis agricultural areas in the foothills of Tianshan Mountain, Hexi Corridor, Ningxia Plain and the margins of Tarim Basin and Junggar Basin.
