2. Comments on Hu Shi's and Chen Duxiu's views on literary revolution.

(1) Hu Shi's literary thoughts played a pioneering role in the birth of modern literature in China. The emphasis and advocacy of literary content and social function, as well as his "historical evolution of literary view", had a great influence on the feudal old literature that controlled the literary world at that time. In particular, the introduction of vernacular literature has effectively promoted the modernization of language. But most of the ideas are minor improvements in form, and there is a big compromise.

(2) Chen Duxiu's literature advocates starting from the standpoint of thoroughly opposing feudal democracy, opposing both the language form and the reactionary ideological content of the old literature, thus clearly raising the banner of the literary revolution. The attitude of advocating literary revolution is much more resolute and radical than that of Hu Shi. But what kind of new literature should be established after denying the feudal old literature is not specific. There are some contradictions and confusion in the literary concepts borrowed from the west.
