History of Spring Festival couplets

Before the Song Dynasty, Spring Festival couplets were often written on peach symbols. When the new year came, the old year was called away and replaced with new peach symbols. Peach symbols are made of peach wood. The ancients thought that peach wood could ward off evil spirits, and ghosts and gods were afraid. Therefore, when the New Year comes, a new peach symbol will be affixed, which is also the embryonic form of the earliest Spring Festival couplets in early summer. After the Song Dynasty, the symbol of mahogany was gradually changed to red paper, which was called "Spring Stickers" or "Spring Festival couplets".
