The bigger the house facing south, the more sunshine, and the better the lighting.

For the same angle of sunlight, the square apartment has a higher coverage of sunlight because of its wide area and short depth; Rectangles with the same angle have a lower coverage of sunlight because of their longer depth.

2. Ventilation performance: the square residence has good ventilation performance, while the rectangular residence has poor ventilation performance.

True north-south ventilation means that the windows on both sides of the north and south can form convective wind. Excellent air permeability accelerates the circulation of indoor and outdoor air, ensures the indoor air quality, and also maintains a cool indoor environment in summer. The air permeability of square is much better than that of rectangle.

First, the rectangular pattern restricts each other, and it is impossible to achieve true north-south transparency.

Due to the limited layout of rectangular apartment, there are generally only two rooms on one side, so the north and south can not be truly transparent. The north side is generally blocked by the kitchen or other functional spaces, which makes the north and south opaque. Square units have no such concerns. Generally, it is only carefully designed and easy to be transparent.

Second, the depth of rectangle is greater than that of square, which leads to poor air permeability.

Rectangular apartment has a long depth, the wind direction is blocked by layers, the infiltration effect is not as good as that of square apartment, and the north-south circulation effect is not good.
